I haven't been here in awhile, so I don't know which job, but I am going to say anyway, WOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! And do a "Numfar's Dance of JOY" for you!!!!
I went back and read about the job, and it sounds like a fantastic, creative opportunity. I'm a bit envious. I was a theater major in college my freshman year, until I let myself be talked out of it by my family and friends, who were being well-meaning, I suppose. I've always wondered, "what if?" I wasn't that interested in acting. I was interested in the producing, directing side of things. Oh well.
Congratulations. I'm very happy for you. I think this is a neat fit for you. I'm sorry about the Christian Kane show, but I'm sure you'll be able to see him another time. Right? Now isn't it strange you have to go to Pennsylvania to find a job in the Creative Arts, when you were living in the entertainment capitol of the world for several years?
Thanks again!kelleahSeptember 27 2009, 00:25:50 UTC
The gig isn't too much on the creative side. Basically, I'm the equivalent of an office manager. I have 2 bosses: the Creative Director (Boss Man) and the Managing Director (Boss Lady). Each has a specific set of tasks they're responsible for and I'm the one who coordinates with the rest of the school/studio/theater to make sure those tasks happen. It's a mix of admin, PR, marketing, and customer service (esp. with kids' parents who believe their children are the next Beyonce/Savion Glover/Dakota Fanning).
It's a nonprofit, so I get to wear many hats for little pay. :-/ But I'm hoping the experience will be invaluable. More on this in an upcoming post.

I was decent actress in high school, but I'm far too self-conscious to think I stood a chance in hell in pursuing it as a career. But I think I'm interested in producing projects (theater/film/digital media)

Thanks! I'm not sure when I'll finish the verbose post I have planned, so, generally speaking, the gig is basically an office manager position for a theater company/school for the arts. I'm the go-between for the public, as well as for the Managing Director and the Creative Director. I would have 2 bosses and I'm responsible for keeping their tasks on task in order for the plays, ensembles, and showcases to go off without a hitch.
I'm mildly optimistic. More on this in my long, navel-gazing post later.
There are a few downsides. It's a nonprofit, so the pay is laughable. And now that I have a FT gig, it means I probably won't be leaving this god-awful valley anytime soon. Yadda, yadda, yadda.
But I'm trying to look on the bright side, and there's plenty there. I'm just a whiner by nature. Especially when it comes to my own good fortune.
Oh wow congratulations! It sounds neat and hopefully a good change of pace. Can't wait to read your upcoming long-ish post!
Also, have you ever seen Slings and Arrows? Cause now you just have to. In my mind you're working at that theatre company - I can picture it perfectly!
I'm going to hold you to that. :-P I'm working on my notice to my PT job now. I hope they'll let me stay on, but I can only work weekends now. And since they really don't need anymore help on weekends, they may just tell me to hit the bricks.
I plan to write up my big, navel-gazing post tonight. I'm sure it will include the PT job's reaction in the update.

No, I've never even heard of that series. I had to go look it up on Netflix. It sounds kinda cool. Although I prefer the madcap antics of Noises Off, so that's saying something, right? :-)

You actually haven't been away that long. Only about a week or so. I haven't posted much since the last time you were around these parts.
