Another Two book month...oh well, I really enjoyed both of them, so quality not quantity I suppose...

Book # 1: From a Whisper to a Scream by Charles De Lint--Disturbing, vivid, extremely well written and with some very sympathetic (and one not so sympathetic) characters. I tortured myself while reading this book trying to remember the '80's ( Read more... )

Yay for Gaiman! I think you could've read AB first or on its own without excessive harm.

Bummer about Harrison. I thought of you that day, but had no idea you'd be Nelson-ing instead. A couple of years or so ago Gunnar and Matthew were on Alice (the radio station) and did an acoustic version of their one hit and I thought it was a fun performance.

The wonderful impetus to read Gaiman, and not mocking the Nelson. They were very entertaining, and still cute in a blonde, girly way. Matthew (the chubbier one who was not on Celebrity Fit Club) is still cuter for my money. They did just two Nelson songs, and the rest Ricky Nelson songs, but they seemed sincerely enthusiastic about performing and that goes a long way with me.

...to resist Nelson?!?

I just got Fistful of Charms yesterday! I'm eager to start it, but I'm in the middle of other reading, so it'll be at least a couple of days....

I love both of your June reads. There's a book called Dark Cities Underground by Lisa Goldstein that I really enjoyed. I find it similar in theme and tone to American Gods (which came out a year after it), but it's shorter and it's set in the Bay Area.

I must check out Lisa Goldstein, and also actually read the Tom Holt book I bought (the name of which I can't remember) but which is also about something similar I think...

I told myself I was going to go slow on Fistful of Charms, and actually, for the first 100 pages or so, I was sort of disappointed/unengaged...unfortunately(?)it picks up after that, so I didn't get to bed until terrifyingly late last night, and I am not a happy camper at work today, and I didn't even finish the darn thing, so I'm in suspense until tonight. Still about 50 pages left...it takes some very unexpected turns.

So now I know... rabbijeffty July 5 2006, 21:27:06 UTC
...that I should read FoC over the weekend. Thank you for the advance warning of addictiveness (not that it surprises me-if I remember correctly I had a very similar experience to the one you describe when I read the last one).

Sorry you're experiencing lack of sleep ickiness! I hope you get the chance to recover tonight.
