I recently mainlined the DVD set of the complete series of The Persuaders, and I have a few thoughts.

I've heard about The Persuaders here and there, but have never had the chance to watch it. Sadly, our kickass independent video rental place, while it is kickass enough to have the Sandbaggers discs, is not yet kickass enough to have The Persuaders as well. Rats.

Checklist:
* Lurid, slightly surreal late 60s/early 70s jet-set mysteries? Check
* Groovy, eye-blinding interior sets? Check
(look for The Lamp which appears in practically every ep -- believe me, you can't miss it.)
* Two attractive guys helping each other, living in one another's pockets, and touching each other a lot? Check

It sounds like this show and I would get on very well together. And you know I have no problem with the older men. (Is there an LJ tag for UNDERSTATEMENT, I wonder...)

Anyway, I thought you might be interested in this Persuaders story I ran across the last time I was wandering through the rareslash community:

Room Service

Not knowing the show, I can't say anything specific about the story, but I hope it's enjoyable!

from an internet cafe in London
Have sent a postcard. :D
#and isn't Injured Innocents wonderful? O.Yardley really has much affection for the lads. I am so glad that she is still writing and I saw her put the final touches on a new story, which will at sometime become available as a zine. Shall I tell you about it as soon as I know more?

I got your postcard. :D Thank you! That is really exciting that O. Yardley is still writing. Yes, I'd love to know when the zine becomes available. That is really good news.

I hope you're having a great holiday!

The Persuaders is the gayest thing that has ever been. I don't know why the internet is not full to bursting with fanfic for it.

It is pretty gay, isn't it? One of those shows where I kept saying "Why don't you just kiss already? Sheesh." Because they might as well, what with the touching, the teasing, the in each other's space, and the touching (again).

The story Dorinda found, Room Service, I highly recommend. And I just found that there's an lj community the_persuaders and there have been some stories posted there, which I'm about to go look at. But yes, there needs to be more!

Guh. Where were you hiding when i got my boxsets last year?
Wish it'd been you I was with when I walked into that resturant in Naples that was *straight* out of The Persuaders :) Yellow tableclothes 'n' all.
Fave episodes? Oh, I'd have to look them out to match titles to moments, but there's one episode where they land in a heap together at the bottom of the stairs and stay tangled up several moments longer than necessary or decorum dictates. :)

I was probably still in the land of Ohmygod, not Tony Curtis?!? denial, sad thing that I am. I've had an unnatural fondness for Roger Moore since The Saint, but I'd just never been, uh, shall we say exposed to Tony Curtis in such a way as The Persuaders accomplishes. Heh.

The Terry Nation eps are all rather fun, but there's a Brian Clemens one I just stumbled across that's like the Big Gay Episode of my Big Gay 1970s Show. The one about the brass German eagle... Notice the *breakfast scene*. :)

Oh yes, *that* one. Rather high on my rotation scene, that one :)

Yup. You know what's really scary? The lads showed up at the Empire Awards (possibly still up at chez Empire?) and they were still in character. Scary, but the evidence of mine eyes does not deceive me ( ... )

There's another one where they keep ending up in each other's hotel rooms, to the consternation of the babe du jour.

They're doing that in the bronze German eagle one, as well. And there's a sofa scene in that one...

and they were still in character.

I'm torn between "awwww" and "yipes".

Btw, have you seen Life on Mars?

Yep, devoured it whole! :) Absolutely wonderful! I just bought the DVD set from England, because that show is definitely a keeper.
