Title: Hug a Cat Café

Synopsis: One of the most popular cafés around, Hug a Cat is always bustling with visitors. Well known for its amazing pastries, friendly owner and snuggly cats, the café has a very high standing among the neighbors and has many regulars. The new show Hug a Cat Café concentrates on the daily life of Hug a Cat's owner, Ruth and her employees and customers (and of course, the cats) as they come together and form a family. Geared towards audiences of all ages, themes like coming of age, fame and prejudices are explored with an underlying humor and lightness that makes this a show for the whole family.*

Main characters

Ruth King (Miriam Margolyes) - Owner of Hug a Cat. Stopped giving a shit about things in the sixties. She loves cats and is proud of being an old lesbian cat lady. She is very warm and always open to chat with her customers about everything. Her cats, her employees and her customers are her family. She is still a little grumpy that she only thought about naming her café "Pat a Cat" after everything was already set in stone and not changeable anymore, but she does love Hug a Cat just the same and cats like hugging much better than patting anyways.

Ali Liu (Ramona Young) - Waitress at Hug a Cat. She is a medical student because her parents wanted her to be a doctor but she plans on changing her major to become a vet. Loves all animals and is very well read in all kinds of animal welfare and behaviour. Was a driving force behind adding a little library to Hug a Cat. In her free time, she volunteers at the cat shelter and often proposes new additions to the café.

Serena Rosas (Allegra Acosta) - Teenager, whose family can't have pets because the landlord doesn't allow it, so she spends most of her free time in Hug a Cat. She doesn't know yet what she wants to do after high school but she hopes it involves acquiring knowledge and cats, because that's the two things she loves the most. Together with Ali, she had petitioned to have a little library in the café so she can read new books. She was also vital in installing a weekly quiz that she often wins, having already more knowledge than the average adult.

Tia Mauve (Sisa Grey) - A regular in the café, who is a part of Ruth's inner circle. She can come across as unapproachable because she doesn't talk much at first and enjoys just spending time with her coffee and her own thoughts, while she watches the cats, but once she opens up she talks a lot and is a very warm person. She has helped out with calming down angry customers, who tend to become much less angry once they see her standing up to her full height. Even though she is proficient in martial arts, her true passion is dancing.

Veronica "Viper" Abrams (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) - Lead singer of the punk rock band The Nasty Weasels, Veronica, who goes by either Roni or Viper, is just starting out what will surely be a stellar career. Her manager books her a gig at Hug a Cat by mistake and she is first a little concerned that it would hurt her image but then she realizes that cats are indeed very punk rock and while, obviously, playing loud music in the vicinity of cats is a bad idea, she plays her next concert as a homage to Hug a Cat and donates all the proceedings to them. She also comes to the café regularly after that, fast becoming a member of the family. As per her image, she tries to come across as tough and cold but she is a softie inside and melts whenever a cat jumps into her lap. Her fans brought a lot of revenue into Hug a Cat, always hoping to see her at some point, maybe even get an autograph.

The cats (various cats found on the internet, lol) - All cats are former shelter cats who live with Ruth in her apartment above the café. They have free reign between the café and the apartment and can come and go as they please. All of them have distinct personalities, likes and dislikes. Most customers have a favorite, but since that varies so much from person to person, all cats get the amount of snuggles they want.

Recurring characters

Autumn and Fiona (Stella Maeve and Brittany Curran) - Working at Hug a Cat as barista and baker, both Autum (Aut) and Fiona (Fee) are members of the family. While Fiona tends to be hyperactive and is sunshine in human form, Autumn is more guarded but laid back with an occasionally very cutting humor. Ruth is pretty sure Autumn is stoned most of the time, but her baked goods are amazing, so she lets it slide.

*Yes, I know I mention drugs in that last character description which would probably make the rating higher, but hey, it's my show, so whatever. :D
