It was amazing how much work was necessary for a small get together, but also how quickly and easily it went with the help of another person. Especially when that person happened to be on staff

Bryn was pleased everything was set up, and it all looked perfect. Sycora had been an enormous help setting up the bonfire area, and Joe's assistance with the cupcakes and cookies had been greatly appreciated.
It was a small gathering, but perfect for what she wanted.
After all, today she was turning twenty-one and what she'd wanted most of all was to spend it with her friends. Perhaps none of the guests would know that, but for those on the staff, but Bryn found she didn't care so much about having her birthday celebrated but for the first time just be able to spend it surrounded by friends.
Smiling as she slowly approached the bonfire and those gathered, Chloe sought out Bryn and made her way over to the other woman as she admired the layout.
"Hey. Thank you for the invite. You do all this?"
True, Chloe may have barely talked with Bryn in the past, but she admired the shifter for having the strength to share what she was with so many people, and Chloe wanted to thank her personally for going to all this effort.
"Thank you, yes. Well, myself and Sycora and Joe from the staff," Bryn replied, pleased to see people starting to join her out there. "I couldn't have done it all on my own, that's for sure!"
She looked around the bonfire area with a distinct look of pride and pleasure, and then back to Chloe.
"I'm glad you decided to come out. Chloe, right?" she asked, hoping she'd remembered the correct name.
Chloe smiles, nodding at Bryn's question. "Yeah, Chloe. Derek's mentioned you on occasion. I think he really likes a lot of the people here, even if he isn't so quick to admit it." She chuckled.
"It was a nice idea. Thank you for inviting all of us. It looks like everyone is already really enjoying themselves."
Looking around once more, Chloe finally asks, "Did you make the cupcakes, too?"
Why was he even here? There was absolutely no reason for him to go to a "party". Even if it was an invitation from the woman he'd known on the Elegante. He didn't feel like celebrating anything.
... being at a party just reminded him of that ship. And the people there that were no longer here. Ratchet would have enjoyed this nonsense.
So he just lurked on the edges of the party -- huge, black, and sulking.
Aht had arrived at the party along with a small wave of guests. There would be a lot of people here; maybe Stocke would be among them. Disappoint over not finding him was finally beginning to set in, and spurring her to work harder at looking.
But tonight, she'd look and be festive. After all, Uncle Vanoss would not approve if she didn't provide some measure of entertainment.
So she skipped along, flute out and playing a rather joyous melody, that is until she happened upon Ironhide. Was this a thaumatech machine from Alistel? Either way, colored her impressed. Have two wide teal eyes staring up at you, 'Hide.
Ironhide sort of disliked being stared at. He knew he was impressive, like nothing most humans had ever seen before. He also knew he was intimidating. But the staring grew tiresome after a while, unlike the almost amusing reactions of people when they realized they were talking to him on the network.
Children though... children seemed to be the exception to every rule in his book. Instead of shooing the girl away, he merely looked back at her, tilting his head.
Wow! He spoke! Aht was awe-struck. He. Is. So. Cool. Maybe not as cool as Stocke (or Kevas), but hot dang, Ironhide you're right up there. It took her a moment to realize she was still staring. She practically beams and waves a hand at Ironhide.
Well. A party. And this one, unfortunately, doesn't come Justice-free. Which puts a terrible damper on anything like celebrating. No drinking, no dancing, nothing remotely like fun.
Thank you very much, Justice.
At least there was food. Sweets. And you couldn't really go wrong with the latter. The spirit taking up residence in his head couldn't argue with food -- since he sort of needed it to stay alive. Maybe there was more ways than one to "indulge" in this party.
The mage can be found with a cupcake half in his mouth. How charming.
Charming enough, because Raven’s been chowing down on them with little to no abandon. She’s got two in on hand, and is currently eating another one with the other. Just as classy as he, really.
He's a bit startled that someone's speaking with him -- enough to where he stops chewing on the cupcake mid bite. His mouth is full. And he needs a second to choke it down before he can answer her.

There's no way Bobby'd miss a party. Especially not when he knew the person throwing it. He'd headed down to the green pretty much as soon as he'd read the note in the journal, definitely eager to get to know people better.
He was drawn to the food and drink table almost immediately, investigating the colorful cupcakes and the bowl of punch. And then, because he couldn't help himself, he made a medium sized ice sculpture - a mini version of the Keep - on the table next to the drinks.
Aara heads over to Bobby, admiring the sculpture and walking around the table to see it from all sides before peeking up at Bobby with a smile in her eyes.
"Do you always create things out of ice?"
'Do you always use your powers' might have been a better question, but Aara couldn't help but tease him after their fun out in the snow. It was nice, being able to jest with someone she considered a friend.
He stepped back as Aara came over to inspect the statue, smiling a bit as he did so himself. And then he laughed at her question.
"Pretty much. It's fun, and it also helps me practice my powers and their precision. Plus, it's a party! A drink table totally needs an ice sculpture."
Aara turns her attention from Bobby to the sculpture once more. It was beautiful, of that she was certain. Awe filled her, and she found she was reaching forward to touch it with one finger before she consciously thought of the idea. With a light gasp, Aara quickly draws her hand away, chancing a somewhat guilty look up at Bobby for almost touching something she would have very likely melted. She cradles her hand to her chest as if holding it there will keep her from her desire to feel the icey creation.
"Sorry. I've never seen an ice sculpture before. It's beautiful."
She smiles lightly in admiration.
"I hope it doesn't melt too quickly." The idea of that happening makes her expression fall.
Malkus doesn't seem to understand the proper way to enter into a party or gathering of any sort, so resorts to what he normally tries to do. Silently and cautiously shambling up like a ghost may not let the doctor come off as the most approachable person but he doesn't seem to realize that it's quite alright for him to be here! He DID have a conversation with Miss Bryn before, and this WAS meant to be a pleasant occasion.
These things never get easier and it just seems like Malkus is doomed to be a shy and excitable birdman forever.
He's here, though, and is over by the cupcakes. Studying and investigating the curious treats before silently taking one.
"They're really quite good," Bryn said, having come back to the table to retrieve a cupcake for herself. "I suggest the chocolate ones, but I'm biased," she added sheepishly.
"I don't think we've ever met in person before but...you're Malkus, aren't you?" she asked tentatively.
She remembers him! This makes things much less awkward to the doctor, who's finally starting to relax. "A-Are they?" Malkus said, slowly turning his head towards Bryn. "I'll certainly try one, then... But are they hiding anything is what I'm mainly trying to determine. You know, like foods from previous gatherings?"
Even if they were, Malkus would have probably tried one of each.
"Y-Yes, I'm the same Malkus from before! And you're Miss Bryn? It's a pleasure to meet you in person!"
"Oh! Well, I don't know how they did what they did that last time but I promise you I baked these myself. As far as I can tell they're as normal as they should be," Bryn replied, picking one of them up and taking a bite to prove it. Malkus certainly wasn't precisely as she expected, but he seemed fairly pleasant to be around thus far.
"It's really nice to see you face to face finally," she added. "I'm sorry it's taken so long for us to get to this point."

"Really exciting." She gave him a look. "Are you okay?" Hopefully he wasn't going to choke on it.
