Sollux isn't really eager to do this, but the last time he saw the puppies they were small enough that it seemed like it shouldn't be that much of a problem to wash some. Not that he'd been doing a great job with assuming so far, but at least these things weren't likely to kill him. Not when there was company. He doesn't look very enthusiastic about it, but Sollux is there to wash puppies. Woo.
Grinning, Chloe walks over to Sollux as she eyes each of the puppies she passes, noting playful ones and tired ones and wondering how hard of a job this would be. Sure, she felt she owed it to Nieta for rescuing them and being so helpful, but Chloe had never washed a dog in her life. If it hadn't also been for Derek, she might not have ventured out there. He wouldn't be able to come near the pups, though, so apparently both she and Derek were thanking Nieta through Chloe's action.
"Well, fancy seeing you here." She grins. She hadn't expected to see Sollux, but at least she was working with someone she knew as she made a complete fool of herself here, right?
Sollux looks to Chloe, not sure if he should be glad he's paired with someone he knows or wish it was someone who looked like they could handle these things better. But then a lot of the people here were smaller, and the dog-master wasn't that big anyway, so they were probably safe. Even if the idea of animals not trying to eat him was pretty damned odd.
Chuckling, Chloe shook her head in bemused disbelief. Made sense that Sollux didn't know how to do this any better than she did. "I don't, actually. I have a feeling we're both about to learn really quickly." And probably get a little wet.
With a little shrug, Chloe walks back over toward the puppies, looking them over. "Want Tl help pick one out?"
Hawke knew dogs, he knew pups, and he knew the moment he picked this one up it was going to give him trouble. It squirmed and wriggled in his hands the stopped, barked at him, and immediately began squirming again. He was reminded of Thunderbutt when he was a pup only this one wasn't nearly as rowdy.
"No fussing out of you, you hear me?" The pup just barked at him again. Hawke really wished he had a list of those command words that Nieta taught them.
Odette is a little late, considering the bottom of her dress is wet. But she's here. She's never actually bathed a dog before. Servants always took care of her pets. So this'll be an adventure. Are you ready for an adventure Hawke?
"Never had a dog before have you?" Hawked asked with a smirk. He never met a pup that behaved itself during a bath. His certainly didn't. Keeping a firm grip on the fussy pup, Hawke brought it to one of the tubs.
"Looks like you tried to give something a bath already though." It was kind of hard to miss that the bottom of her dress was soaked.
"I have. But I never had to take care of them, at least not like this." One of the many perks of being a princess, she supposes. She follows him to the tub, gathering the soap and other necessary items.
When he mentions the bottom of her dress, she can't help but look down self-consciously. "Oh, yeah. I just came from the lake."
Varric wasn't regretting his decision to volunteer. Not really. He was, however, questioning whether or not it had been the wisest decision he'd ever made as he eyed the pup.
"Right about now is when I'm wishing I had more experience with dogs than teaching 'em to play cards."
Having not understood a word of what anyone had been saying, Kumatz looked remarkably unruffled. She had a genial close-lipped smile and something resembling a head scarf (really more of a head, shoulder and chest scarf) and a sari, all torn from the commodities found in the Clothier's Tower.
Nothing she didn't mind getting wet.
The pup was wary, she could tell that much. Kumatz bent to lightly touch the very short, very pale-skinned creature with hair on his head and chest. On the shoulder, of course. "You are closer to him, little man. You should be the one to hold him."
The smile never faltered. She pointed at his hands, then at the pup.
His coat was nowhere to be found, safely left back in his cell. It felt weird to be without it, but that was better than risking it getting ruined by an over eager pup.
He glanced up at his dog-washing companion when she touched his shoulder, but had absolutely no idea what she was saying. He got the picture quickly enough at her gestures, though, and grimaced before nodding his assent.
"All right, come here, you," he told the pup, crouching slightly to its level. He paused only briefly to let it sniff at his hand, then scooped it up.
It pleased her to see that her partner wasn't abnormally slow, as she had come to expect from a few of the guests with whom she shared quarter. When he nabbed the pup Kumatz took a moment to admire the vast carpet of green surrounding them, as well as the trees beyond. Some gifts were never to be taken for granted.
She didn't require Nieta's instructions, nor did she see any need to remove the collar. Obstacles like that could be overcome.
In accordance with Varric having scooped up their charge, she selected a bar of soap and balanced it between triple-jointed thumb and index. Kumatz tilted her head towards the barrel.
