Hawke knew dogs, he knew pups, and he knew the moment he picked this one up it was going to give him trouble. It squirmed and wriggled in his hands the stopped, barked at him, and immediately began squirming again. He was reminded of Thunderbutt when he was a pup only this one wasn't nearly as rowdy.
"No fussing out of you, you hear me?" The pup just barked at him again. Hawke really wished he had a list of those command words that Nieta taught them.
Odette is a little late, considering the bottom of her dress is wet. But she's here. She's never actually bathed a dog before. Servants always took care of her pets. So this'll be an adventure. Are you ready for an adventure Hawke?
"Never had a dog before have you?" Hawked asked with a smirk. He never met a pup that behaved itself during a bath. His certainly didn't. Keeping a firm grip on the fussy pup, Hawke brought it to one of the tubs.
"Looks like you tried to give something a bath already though." It was kind of hard to miss that the bottom of her dress was soaked.
"I have. But I never had to take care of them, at least not like this." One of the many perks of being a princess, she supposes. She follows him to the tub, gathering the soap and other necessary items.
When he mentions the bottom of her dress, she can't help but look down self-consciously. "Oh, yeah. I just came from the lake."
"Then you're in for a treat." Actually it was more like to be a chore, but that would depend on whether the pup was just as fussy as it acted. Once Odette had everything Hawke settled it into the warm water, and it immediately began splashing to get its way out.
Hawke grabbed it by the scruff of its neck to keep it from running like he used to do with his own dog. Fortunately this pup was quite a bit smaller than his mabari and Hawke was much bigger than when he first got Thunderbutt. As he turned to grab the soap he grinned towards Odette. "At least you're already wet."
Somehow Odette doubted that. But whatever Nieta was promising for the end of this, was probably worth it. She gave Hawke and wry smirk as she settled next to him to help get started.
Honestly the reward wasn't too much of a concern to Hawke. He was just very much a dog person and the more time he spent with them the less time he thought about how his own dog vanished.
Hawke smirked back at her before handing the pup off to Odette. "If you insist."
After quickly grabbing some soap, Hawked dumped it on the pup's back and began lathering it up. The pup did not look amused.
