Thanks! I was trying to write from the viewpoint of someone who listens to, and tries to help with, everyone's problems. Not me, necessarily, but it could probably apply to a lot of people. It got in my head because I couldn't sleep the night before and this movie "Prozac Nation" was on. At first I started thinking of some people as "human pills," then it led to this. Weird how stuff comes to you, huh?

An interesting paradox to a poem I wrote last summer, which was about a brokenhearted girl going to a pharmacy to get anxiety and depression medication. I can also relate to the speaker of your poem to a degree, though.

Yeah, we've all had our misadventures in drinking, like me drinking five or six rum and cokes in one night and throwing up for hours afterwards! (This happened about a year ago, and after that experience, it never will again.)
