Blue, Fizzing Vomit and the Red-Headed Bird's Song

Here's my latest horoscope from Spider Words:

Sagittarius
You’re on the move to better places
The turbulence is over
Your attitude will shift direction
What you left behind was only a cover

Heh, hope it's right. I sent them poems a few weeks ago and also some pictures of a big spider that we had in our yard several years ago. *Cross your fangs*

Now for some news!

First the bad:

Stormie and I attended our friends' wedding in Chicago over the weekend. The wedding and reception were great. We had fun and enjoyed seeing all of buddies. However, I learned a very important lesson about drinking, i.e., you must mix your alcohol with non-alcoholic drinks like water or something very bad will happen the next morning, i.e. dehydration! Also, never, ever take pills, most especially Immodium A.D., on an empty stomach while you are suffering from alcohol-induced dehydration. OMG, I seriously thought I was going to die.

Now the good!

* The stray dog who, while sweet and playful, was terrorizing our feral cat colony and eating their food, was adopted by one of our neighbors. They named him Oscar. He is a funny dog that looks like a mix between a sheltie or collie and bassett hound or corgi.

* We started trapping tonight and caught Alexander, the friendly stray who IF said we can have fixed with the others. Unfortunately, we didn't catch the remaining kittens, Scooter and Patchwork. Tree said that Scooter came very close but just wouldn't go into the trap. We have one more shot tomorrow night.

* When I was waiting for Stormie in the car outside the hotel, feeling better after my ordeal but still quite weak, I watched a female house finch making her nest in a little evergreen tree while her red-headed mate sang his heart out from the top of the tree.

* As we drove home from Chicago, I stared with wonder at the blue rippling crystal effect made by holding an Aquafina water bottle over my notebook while the sun shone through the car windows. Very pretty.

* I wrote a poem on the way to Chicago! Here it is:

The Human Pharmacy

I open my doors
every morning
and watch the customers file inside.

One by one, they take
whatever they need.

Red pills for the tired,
blue for the ones losing sleep,
white for those who want to lose
themselves.

Sometimes I feel empty
and threaten to close
my doors forever,

but a mob throws rocks through the windows
in protest. The glass
shatters my heart, and I can't help

but hand them the pieces
at half price, while secretly
plotting bankruptcy.

family, poetry, cats
