Holiday Party Poll!

Dec 07, 2009 12:18

Okay, we've got some good news and some bad news. First let's get the bad news out of the way. It seems that a lot of folks from the Lawrence area are going to be busy and unavailable in the upcoming weeks. After talking with a few people, it seems like having a pre-holiday meetup in Lawrence is... illogical. Almost nobody from Lawrence can go.

HOWEVER... because I don't believe in no-win scenarios, I'm still going to see who wants to get together for an informal gathering here in Kansas City next weekend. Your First Officer and I are both available on the 12th, and we'd like to see who wants to get together to simply hang out, go out for coffee (macchiatos anyone?), and maybe watch some Trek as a group. So if you're interested in an informal get-together next weekend, anytime on the 12th, please post a comment here or send me a PM. Let's make the most of this, yes? There are some nice coffee shops in the area. Some nice pubs, too. *grins* Just let me know, and we'll get a general head-count, and make decisions as a group for what we want to do.

And now... the REAL reason for the post! It looks like quite a few people want to have a post-Christmas holiday party. This is excellent! Also, please remember that not all crew members of the USS Macchiato are on Livejournal. I've been recruiting. Oh yes. We've got three people, maybe four, who want to join us for the post-Christmas holiday party, but who are not on the LJ group. We'll try to take their schedules into account. But for now, we've got to pick a date and decide what we want to do! And for that... we go to a poll.

Part 1: Pick a day. For this poll, please check the boxes for ALL THE DAYS YOU COULD COME. Don't just pick your favorite. If you CAN make it on a given day, and you WOULD come if we host the party on that day, please check that box. ALL possible boxes. Then it makes this a simple matter of selecting the day that the most people can come. (Please note, however... that I can't be there on the 26th. I have family obligations. However, I wanted to include that day in case everyone else found that day to be most convenient. Our lovely First Officer is also able to host the party in my absence, and while I'd miss everyone, I want this to be for everyone.)

Part 2: Yankee Swap! Okay, I should explain what a Yankee Swap is. It's a gift exchange game. You bring a gift that you think anyone in the group might find fun or amusing. It should be inexpensive (less than $10) or even homemade. Wrap the gift, but do NOT put your name on it, or anyone else's name. When you arrive at the party, you put the gift on a table with all the others. When the Yankee Swap begins, we put numbers in a hat - one number for each person participating. You draw a number, and the person with #1 picks a random gift first, and opens it. Then #2 picks a gift, opens it, and can CHOOSE to either keep that present, or swap it for the one that the first person opened. Then #3 goes, and can choose to keep that present, or swap for EITHER of the first two. And so on. And at the end, the person with #1 can go through ALL the presents and pick his or her favorite. It's a game, it's silly, it's fun, and everyone ends up with something. And yes, gag-gifts are perfectly acceptable. So... Do you want to do a Yankee Swap? Yes, or no?

Part 3: FOOD. Always an important question. The party will either be at my house or mizuno_caitlin 's house, and I can tell you that I'm happy to prepare a decent party spread, but having a full pot-luck might be nice. Just remember that you wouldn't be obligated to bring more than you're comfortable bringing. Even a couple of liters of soda would be a fair contribution. I know some of us are more tight for resources than others, and that's fine. Contribute what you want, if you can.

Part 4: TICKY!!!

So... hailing frequencies open!
