Pre WWII Dad had wanted to be a commercial artist - but his parents wouldn't sign the paperwork to let him stay on at school after the age of 14. As the war started a year later it was accedemic anyway!

Do you have any of your dad’s work?

Not his artwork as it was all commercial stuff that had to go back to the companies. I have some of his pottery that he did as a hobby :)

It is at least something from his artistic hands. Are familiar with the companies he worked for and thus able to recognize his work?

Not really - I know he did a few of the Tomy toy box illustrations and some of the adverts he added things to. The one that lives on is the illustration of Joan Hickson that he drew for the series of Miss Marple TV programmes.

Sounds as if your dad's career was very interesting.

I loved the film of The Martian but I haven't read the book.

The book is great if you know much about the Mars Rovers and biology experiment explanations etc as he explains how he technically survived in simple science.

It was an interesting job I think.

I was considering socks yesterday - but stayed barefooted as it warmed up a bit. Today we are looking at a calm 19C or so, which is warm feeling to us if there is no breeze.
