I can't believe the last time I did the reading meme was February, so there are a LOT of books to list that I've read since then...
What I've read:
Prison of Hope (The Hellequin Chronicles Book 4) by Steve McHugh. It was OK, but it's interesting that since I read it I've not felt the need to buy the next one in the series.
The Something Girl by Jodi Taylor - it was nice to get back to these characters, but I was slightly disappointed as some of the story seemed rather contrived and I didn't enjoy it as much as the first instalment. It still felt like it was set in the 1950s rather than the present day.
Ghosts of Christmas Present by J R Rain, Rod Kierkegaard Jr. A short story set in the Dead Detective series and good fu.n
Murder Offstage: A Posie Parker Mystery (The Posie Parker Mystery Series Book 1) L B Hathaway. I was seduced by the blurb as this was a 99p novel. It actually was OK, but there were too many modern day phrases which kept annoying me as it's supposed to be set in the 1920s. Also there were a few plot holes. It was surprising as there were lots of very positive reviews for this and the consequent episodes in the series. Not for me.
Midnight Moon: Vampire for Hire 13 by J R Rain. Another good tale in this series.
Fated: An Alex Verus Novel by Benedict Jacka. First in the series and one I enjoyed so much I kept buying the books:
Cursed by Benedict Jacka
I digressed into the first of the Iron Druid Chronicles Hounded by Kevin Hearne which I really enjoyed, but unfortunately they are still really expensive on Kindle, so I have held back on buying any of the following books in the series for a while.
Chosen by Benedict Jacka. Another good novel, so I started to ration them a bit.
And The Rest is History (The Chronicles of St Mary's Series Book 8) by Jodi Taylor who is very much back on form with Max and the team in peril. A real page turner and a cliff hanger (dammit!)
Hidden by Benedict Jacka. Really enjoying the twists and turns, but my goodness you don't want to be a Diviner stuck in this 'verse!
The Run-Out Groove (The Vinyl Detective) by Andrew Cartmel. The second in the Vinyl Detective series and a good follow up. I enjoyed it and only found it as it was a recommendation from Amazon when I was browsing.
Beach Lawyer (Beach Lawyer Series) by Avery Duff. This was OK, but I guessed what was happening at almost every turn and the ending was a bit odd. OK if you don't want to be too taxed by a plot and very like a soap opera.
Cadicle Omnibus (Volumes 1 - 3) by Amy DuBoff. I should have realised that this was going to be a Young Adult book from the description, but I was feeling guilty about how much I have been spending on books, so I snapped this up as it was three novels for 99p. I should have been concerned when it was described as "An Epic Space Opera Series". It was OK, and I may dip into the final books to find out what happened to the characters, but it was not particularly well written and sometimes the resolutions to issues were just too simple for my taste.
That takes the total for this year to: 27
What I'm reading now:
The Aeronaut's Windlass: The Cinder Spires, Book One by Jim Butcher. It's interesting so far, although it took a little bit for me to get into the story at the beginning.
What I'm reading next:
I have no idea. I might follow on with the next in the Cinder Spires series.
In other news I have paid for the stall at the local school fete to see if I can sell some stained glass items, so I've committed to doing it (eek!). My time will be spent making things over the next couple of weeks, but I'm going to keep it simple and just offer a few items as I don't think offering too much choice will help sales.
I've also agreed to dance solo in August at a belly dance showcase. I must be mad and I'm dancing quite a complicated dance that we've been learning in class. On the one hand this means I know the choreography already, on the other hand it's quite long.... (eek!). We've also been invited back to dance at the Christmas party the Zumba group from Friday are going to hold so that should be fun.
The 100 questions continue with 76: Is there anything you should be doing right now but aren't? Actually, no - it's 7.40pm and it's our chill out time as we've had our dinner and we're currently watching a show about architecture. This will be followed by The Great British Menu finals for a gala dinner at Wimbledon, and then probably something we've recorded and bed. Mr Cee has been home since Monday and will probably work at home tomorrow as he's got a really nasty cough and hasn't slept well. I'll be making more glass as after torrential rain yesterday the weather is positively dull and chilly and so I can hide in my studio and get on with it.
Laterz...
