You're not the only person unenthused with the steady shift away from quality single-player gaming experience. In principle, the opportunity to game collectively should stimulate new forms of role-playing and help games achieve a life of their own. In practice, this amounts to an obligation to play with every closet psychopath PK-er loosed on the world by the anonymity of the Net.
I staunchly maintain that no computer game that can't be enjoyed solo is worth any real time/money investment.

I'm not sure I'd go that far (well, obviously, otherwise I wouldn't be trying WoW), but I know exactly what you mean.
I guess I just wish there was some way of forming a group that didn't rely so much on pure luck as to the sanity and maturity levels of the others in the group.
