So, after almost exactly a week of (quite intensive) playing of World of Warcraft I have a lvl 18 Druid with a midlife crises of the "what is the point to my existence" kind.
I know I'm going to regain interest in a little bit since at 20 he gets cat form, but beyond that, I'm beginning to wonder if this game really is going to hold any lasting interest for me. Penny Arcade had some things to say on WoW today and I think they hit on my current problem: To progress further, with any level of enjoyment, I'll have to start playing _with_ people rather than just doing my own thing.
This concerns me, since my experience of playing with people on the internet up to this point can be succinctly put: People are dumb. Just 'listening' to the chat channels is enough to leave me wondering where exactly they get these people from. The best mannered player I've worked with so far claimed to be 12 years old...
All these things are probably very unfair to the game. Finding social aspects in a game is a very new thing for me (outside of the post-game dissection / discussion). I guess it's just something I've got to learn.
