Chessie an old lady in dog years.* It's been a wonderful life for her, being so loved, such a part of your family: she's not a pet, she's a child/sister/aunt. She's kin.
In the end, what more can any of us want from a life than this kind of love? And the many happy experiences she's had. Good thing animals, unlike people, can't worry about the future and what will happen to them. In that she is doubly blessed.
*(I so hate that our furpersons have such short lives compared to us! So many losses and grief in one person's lifetime!)
She's a pretty dog! I hope whatever time she has left will be good.
Chessie started getting fatty tumors on her body when she about five. this is common in retrievers. This... shocks me. I think of cancer is a disease that is extremely wrong. It is the body gone haywire on itself, which, in some ways, is even worse than a disease that results from a microbial infection. The fact that it's so common even in our pets suggests something *highly* wrong with some aspect of our lifestyle, and I wish the medical world (of which I am sort of a part now) would be a little more aggressive in trying to figure out the causes.
