Is there any polite way to say, "This was such a good story I forgot who it was by, and when I looked afterwards I was surprised to see it was you"? {g}

Or, "This is so good, and your last few stories were so repetitive and formulaic, and I'm so pleased (and shocked) you finally broke out of that mold"?

how about "striking story. made my BR's day!" aka "takes perseverance to a whole new level"

or "your style always baffles me" (you can leave "in that story's case, trust me, it's a compliment.")

I don't know how to say it politely, but I definitely have wanted to say "OMG, TRY TO WRITE A DIFFERENT STORY!" or "Who are these characters?" many different times.
