I think I originally planned for Spock to attempt to smuggle the cat back to his quarters or something (through a conspiracy with Uhura) but I forgot the details. :/ Or maybe he was going to ~logically deduce that Jim was the cat and out him, idk. And maybe Pike held him hostage at some point, forcing Jim to act more dumb and cat-like so he doens't get in trouble?

(but Spock is definitely SURPRISINGLY GOOD at petting cats, as Jim discovers)
