Crime Against Fandom #283 aka Today's Random Fic Idea

The TARDIS adopts a stray cat. Fic would most appropriately be told from the cat's POV, with the greater portion of narrative devoted to finding the perfect melting configuration on the Doctor's lap. (This is likely Eleven, as he seems to be the mildest and most snuggly of the doctors so far; Three and Four, certainly, would not put up with serving ( Read more... )

I have a vague feeling that the Doctor might have had a cat in the New Adventures, though possibly that was in the house on Allen Road rather than in the TARDIS?

Okay, looked it up. The cat was Wolsey, who showed up in Human Nature (the real novel version) and did travel in the TARDIS. I'm not sure to what degree there was cuddling, but there's a spin-off (and my personal head canon) instance of the Seventh Doctor with a cat. The Sixth also claimed to like them, hence the brooch.

I think it would be hilarious if the Doctor picked up a stray cat who was actually a highly intelligent alien lifeform, and NOBODY NOTICED as this cat went around saving the day, rescuing people lost in the bowels of the TARDIS, jumping up on the console to try to Phone Home, etc. :-)

Ah, thanks for the info! I haven't even thought about looking at spin-off material yet, since canon is so big.

Back in the day, between cancellation and the awful TV movie, when DW was being released haphazardly and expensively on video tape, the New Adventures were what we had instead of new canon. It was the semi-official position of the New Zealand Doctor Who Fanclub and its journal TSV that the New Adventures were canon. (Which was fine with me, as long as I didn't have to accept the Missing Adventures as canon also.) One of the things that most irks me about the new series of Doctor Who is that they hired Paul Cornell to redo Human Nature with the Tenth Doctor and Martha instead of the Seventh and Benny, and try as I might I just can't think up an explanation that will let me have two versions of that story both canonical without resorting to a parallel universe explanation which basically defeats the purpose of the new series as a continuation of the old. *sigh* The trials and tribulations of fandom...

ISTR reading quite a good Torchwood/LOLcats fic once. :-)

Ah, see, that's why I try not to get into current shows. I'm cranky at the moment at having to wait for more Season 6 (especially since it seems likely to muck up the head-canon backstory I'm currently working on), and if there weren't decades of old canon I'd have lost interest, like I did with SPN.

I'm actually looking for the TV movie, actually. I had a link to download it and then lost it. I know it's pretty cheesy, and there's a stupidawful TV kiss at the end, but it was the first Who I ever saw and I like Paul McGann. I don't suppose you can help?
nvm, I found it. :D

Copperbadge did the Turchwad fic. ^^
