The Kidnap: Billy/Owen c. 6PM kingoftheweevil February 7 2009, 01:31:18 UTC
Where Owen was concerned, the plan was entirely legitimate.

Sure, kidnapping was a federal offense. And sure they had no right to be messing in poor Billy's life if he didn't want them to.

On the other hand, friends were friends for reasons and decisions had been made (good and bad) by said friends. Which was why Owen waited patiently at the bar. He sat on the other side, this time, watching empty chairs collect dust. The few that remained occupied all fit the same profile. Men with slouched shoulders and red eyes nursing a beer, wrapped in their own cocoon of loveless misery.

Valentines Day was both a slow and busy day for bars. Owen knew because he'd been on the other side of things for a very long time, picking up despondent girls for depressed rebound sex. Tonight, he was picking up a different sort of person.

And he didn't ask Barney where he'd gotten the knockout pills.

Billy did not expect to enjoy this little get-together. He wasn't depressed particularly about Valentine's Day because he'd never celebrated Valentine's Day in his life, but he had plenty of other things to be depressed over and he didn't think spending the evening with Owen lecturing him was going to help at all. He'd only agreed because Owen had been so insistent.

Well, and because he truly didn't have anything better to do.

He arrived at the bar shortly after six, noting that Owen had been right about it being quiet, though he could have wished for no one at all there. No one he recognized besides Owen, so that was a boon.

Heaving a sigh, he crossed to join the barman at the bar. "Let's get this over with. I mean, hi." His enthusiasm was underwhelming.

"Well hello to you too, dear." Owen smiled a little because Billy looked ridiculously pathetic. "You should calm down. I think if you got any more excited, we'd have to call the paramedics. You're in serious danger of overexerting yourself, here."

He was an arse. Capital A.

But a helpful arse, who patted the chair next to him, and gestured for Billy to sit. "Go on, then. What's on your mind? Honestly."

"You really are an ass." But his heart wasn't in it. He seated himself on the other chair and eyed Owen.

"Honestly? Not much. World domination. Subjugation of, oh, pretty much everyone. Uniting every nation under my iron-fisted rule, you know. Stuff like that. You?" No sarcasm here, noooo.

Barney had two outfits for the evening. Outfit number one was a mirror image of the clothes that Owen had for the real Billy. Number two, coming later, was the awesomeness of Barney's suiting up. It'd be fantastic.

He had knocked, and smiled upon hearing Kaylee. The smile had been a grin first, but softened to a real smile. He should be at--no, never mind. This was good. For Billy.

When the door opened, he smiled genuinely. "You--" She looked beautiful. Would Billy say that? Forget it. "You look beautiful."

Kaylee was beaming when she opened the door, her heart almost bursting at seeing Billy ther-

But even as he was speaking, her face fell.

This was not Billy.

There wasn't really one thing that clued her in- it was a mix, really. The smile was a little too bright, the voice just a tiny bit different. Mainly, though, it was just his presence- even when she had been speaking to 'Dr. Horrible', there had been something familiar about him.

"Thanks, Barney," Kaylee replied, a touch of sadness in her voice as she opened the door and stepped back to let him in. "What is going on here?"

She really genuinely liked him. It interested Barney in a way that chemistry sets probably interested Billy when he was a kid. Like he wanted to dissect and it see how it worked.

Luckily, it was all metaphorical. And Barney was careful to keep himself away from emotion sickness enough to not really have to understand why. Still, it was good for Billy.

Another big thing was that Kaylee knew the difference. Immediately. Barney Stinson, Master of Disguises, hadn't fooled her. Also interesting. "Kaylee." He nodded his head as he stepped inside. No use keeping up the ruse.

"I needed you to be happy to go and happy to see him." Simply said, "So I did my suite up like his place and video blogged."

He'd flat-out tricked her.

If she had really thought about the whole situation, Kaylee probably could have figured it out. But she was so blindly hopeful that Billy had actually wanted to see her, she had convinced herself that it was real.

"But happy to go where?" She asked, glancing down at her dress. "He's not at the dance. He can't be." Not if he was still in his Dr. Horrible-anti-social-hating-everyone mood.

Stage 3: The Dance c. 8PM kingoftheweevil February 8 2009, 08:06:16 UTC
It wasn't that Billy was heavy, exactly.

But dragging him from bar to cab, and then from cab to club (and across an empty dance floor into the bathrooms) was enough to exhaust Owen. It was depressing, when he thought about it. Lack of Torchwood meant a lack of running places. They were always running. Honestly, back in Cardiff, Torchwood was his total fitness program -- blessedly, he hadn't gotten soggy around the midsection, yet, but the thought in itself was worrisome.

Still, Owen had enough in him to shove Billy into a bathroom stall and relieve him of his clothes (except for the boxers. Owen did not have the desire to see any more of Billy than he absolutely had to.) At some point, he heard the vague sound of music starting up and people filing into the club and took that as a cue that it was time to change for himself, dressing in a suitably vintage navy-blue tuxedo ( ... )

Barney had his half of the plan well underway and was a perfect gentleman to Kaylee Frye. Okay, perfect might have been a little bit of an exaggeration. But he tried very hard! Code morality and all.

Didn't hurt matters, of course, that there was a very burly looking dude in the taxi with them. Barney grinned at poor Jayne, who got stuck with a coat delivered by the powers of Barnitude (and awesome connections) just as they were exiting the cab. "Sorry, Bro. Dress code. And you need to stick around." It wasn't exactly suiting up..but Barney knew when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em ( ... )

"Not yet." Owen half turned to face Billy as he adjusted the white collar of his shirt. Crisply. He smiled at his handsome reflection. "I'd ask what was in those pills, but I honestly don't think I want to know."

Another tug on the navy lapels and Owen was ready. He looked at Barney, and the suspicious suit-shaped package. "Kaylee here?" He had half a mind to say hello; Owen liked the girl more than he'd care to admit. She felt like a little sister, though he wouldn't say that aloud.

Kaylee was there, waiting nervously by the bar, a glass of something pink and alcoholic in her hand (the bartender had offered and she had said yes, no questions asked- she needed some liquor if she was going to get through this night).

She was more nervous than she could ever remember being, glancing around at the people who were starting to arrive. Where was Billy? How were they going to get him here? What would he say to her?

All these thoughts running through her head, Kaylee just stood by the bar, waiting to see what would happen.
