This is a really good point, and it particularly resonates with my experience of dealing with kids at school. In that, there are clearly some families who will give in to their child's every demand (sometimes the kid needs to winge for it, but they do get it eventually). Parents think they're doing their child a favour by giving them whatever they want, but they're not. Several times, when a student has been bugging me for something - "please can I move seats, please can I not get in trouble for breaking the rules"etc, they will just keep on asking. When I ask them if that strategy works and home, they invariably say yes. When parents don't set their children boundaries because of a warped vision of "need" it makes my job harder, and it makes it harder for the kids when they get out into the real world. It's no wonder that employers are saying that they don't want to hire Gen-Ys.
