ARGH.

So my parents were in town last night, and they stayed at my place. This morning, after I'd left for work, my mother used my laptop to google my office location so that they could meet me for lunch. I had 20+ different tabs open, mostly fics I'd seen linked someplace and wanted to read but hadn't had time for yet, accumulated over several weeks(/ ( Read more... )

UUUUGGGGHHHHH

My parents used to do this ALL THE TIME when they would borrow my computer or I'd use theirs when I was living at home. My father doesn't understand the concept of "minimize" and would always close every window when he was done, even if I had opened up a new tab in my window for him to use.

Do you have Session Manager for Firefox? I've had success in pulling up older sessions after I've accidentally closed all my tabs :\

Seriously. Why is this so difficult to grasp? My mother uses a computer every single day of her life for work, has done for a good two decades. And yet.

If she'd just closed the entire window/program in one fell click, I could have retrieved everything, but since she closed each tab individually and THEN closed the program, all are lost to me. BAH.

Omg, I might would have to kill someone. Slowly and painfully. :(

This, though, is why I've switched to Google Chrome (in addition to the fact that Firefox had become such a memory hog a few versions back). It gives you the option to open 10 or so of your recently closed tabs. Not many, I know, but it's better than nothing in cases like this.

Firefox usually lets me reopen recently closed tags, but I got to it waaaay too late after she'd done her damage, and all were lost. Damn it. >_

Is it possible to reopen the closed tabs? I can do that on chrome, and even after it's been closed I think. At least occasionally. Or maybe the history is saved in the browser somewhere, etc. D: I just. Ugh it hurts to even think about that happening I can't. I just can't.

Normally, yes, I can reopen recently closed tabs, but I got to it hours after the damage had been done, and by closing all the tabs and then the program itself, Firefox chose not to bother remembering. Fuckses.

AAAH. Yes, that would drive me utterly nuts as well. I'm so sorry.

Just...what was the logic behind this? Why would you close anything on someone else's computer?

0_0. My heart cried for you when I read this. I had to Mom-proof my Firefox so that it restores my last tabs, bu that's awful. *hugs* I really hope you find your fic again and keep working on Queen's Gambit :D.

The unexpectedness of it all is the real kicker -- suddenly I understand why people password-lock their laptops. My mother is in town for less than twenty-four hours, and she manages to undo weeks of internet browsing. OY.
