Pain and TMI!

Last weekend I bit my lip and on Monday it turned into a canker sore. It's located on the left side bottom lip and is situated in the worst place, scraping up exactly next to my teeth. All week the darn thing hasn't gotten better, it's actually gotten bigger and more painful. I had to modify my teaching so that I wasn't talking as much (I didn't ( Read more... )

Canker Sore + Ulcerative colitis are pretty common. I've had them all my life and they're a HUGE pain. I've tried a bajillion home remedies and nothing ever really worked. Then a doctor prescribed me acyclovir and it kicks ass. Sores that would last 2 weeks or more last maybe two days and then are gone. Acyclovir changed my life... I wanted to kiss the doctor that prescribed it for me. Usually I don't even take the full dose, or the full length of time. A pill or two a day for three days knocks em right out.

That's what I read as well, but I've never had them often, or as painful, as this time. I think just the location of it is making it worse. I'll wait a week and if it doesn't go away I'll ask my Dr. about acyclovir. Thanks.

I never had them real bad, and then I got the medication and I can't imagine ever having put up with them that long.

Poor thing! It probably got infected from eating or the regular mouth germs. But I hope the covers will bring U relieve. Alot of those home remedies never work. A few years ago I burned the whole back of my hand and my neidhbor said :"Put toothpaste and frozen meat on it." The thing about it was that there was a skin bubble growing and got infected from the toothpaste so I almost got a bad blood infection which wouldn't have been the case if I had just used water for cooling.

Thanks Mellie. I'm going to avoid eating and talking all weekend to see if it heals up!

Ooh, I hate those things! Seems like I get them all the time too.
I hope it gets better quick!!

If you have any chapstick with a lot of aloe in it (I always use Softlips, Vanilla), last time I rubbed that on it a few times and it seemed to heal right away. I always use that chapstick for burns on my hand as well, it stops the pain right away & helps it heal, but I haven't had luck with other brands.

Interesting, I wonder if just aloe would work, I have a plant on the window sill.

I get canker sores once an awhile, but this one is a mutant! I really want to post a photo to show its massive grossness!

Did those canker covers work?
Is the sore still AS painful?

I'm not sure about the canker covers. When it adheres to the sore it turns to a gooey glob. I slept with it on and it the morning the glob was coming off and it was yucky in my mouth. Also, it did something weird to my teeth, they feel rough. The canker sore seemed less swollen, but no other significant difference. I don't think I'll use them again.
