Oh, this is lovely!:D

And please, no worries about delays, otherwise I'll have to start grovelling (again) about I.O.Us and guilty consciences as well. As it is, this is my first birthday fic this year. :)

I'm so glad you used Morris dancing in this: not only do you set the scene and describe the participants so very well (is that you in turquoise tights?;)), but it's such a good idea as a setting to both amuse and fascinate wizards. I love the line about them making Tonks feel dowdy in comparison, and how she and Remus don't quite get the straw bear, as they don't quite get everything else that's going on but enjoy it tremendously all the same. Most of all, I like Remus being thoughtful and secretive, and letting her wear normal clothes - which obviously blend in perfectly, lol - and seeing how, as the day pans out, Tonks gets a far greater understanding of him and wants to know a lot more. I particularly liked it was interesting to discover that he was unaware of quite how much he kept people at a distance. And reassuring, in ( ... )

Firstly, sorry for the late reply - I started to write one last week, but I can't have been in a very good mood as it was all coming out rather grumpy. Not the tone I was aiming to strike, lol!

I'm really pleased you think so! I had such fun describing the whole thing from an outsider's point of view - it's a gift of a setting, really, because there's so much to describe and it's so vivid and vibrant.

I particularly liked 'it was interesting to discover that he was unaware of quite how much he kept people at a distance. And reassuring, in a way, she thought, since if it wasn’t conscious, it was unlikely to be personal.' Which said so much about them both. That was one of those bits that surprised me by just appearing as I was writing. I was listening to the audio book of PoA at the time, and wondering why Remus avoids telling Harry ( ... )

Edited to add that sadly I don't have the legs for tie-dyed shorts. Tater got it right with the ladies in the green dresses. :)

It's no good being coy now and pretending I haven't see through your turquoise tights bluff! ;)

Also, have finally seen the morris film! It was brilliant. I'd thouroughly recommend it. :)

Oh, I hope I can catch it somewhere, I'd really like to see it. Perhaps BBC3 or 4 will do the decent thing and show it for me.

I just love birthdays at LJ! This was a fun read, and I really loved how you poked a little fun at Morris dancing from a wizard's perspective -- LOLed about the costumes looking like Wwizards attempting to dress as Muggles, which I always think is so funny. Such a great little R/T moment, spot-on dialogue, I felt like I was there with them on their weekend getaway!

Is your dance team the one in thin green dresses, shivering? I bet now you'll be on the lookout for Remus and Tonks at all your events!

Thanks!

I'm pleased you think that worked. :) I love JKR's descriptions of 'Muggle' outfits (was giggling away this morning listening to Quiddich World Cup chapter of GoF on my iPod, especially the bit with Archie in his nightie) so I'm glad you think it was a good analogy, lol.

Yes! To be fair we have some thick red cardigans too, but even they don't do much good in the winter...

And definitely on the look out for R&T, now that I know they're fans. ;)

I've had trouble keeping up with all the recent fic posts, so I'm sorry I'm a bit late with this, but reading it has been a wonderful way to end my evening! The descriptions of the dancers and the festival are lots of fun -- your team must be the chilly cloggers in green? :)

The clear sense of trust and rapport between Remus and Tonks is lovely. I like the way the scene at the beginning mirrors Tonks's thoughts at the end; we've actually seen how comfortable she is with Remus, and how he is the one she seeks out when she needs cheering up. I also like the thought of Remus remembering this festival, and thinking to take Tonks there when she was feeling down. (The description of the chaos at number 12 had me cringing, too!)

I'm with gilpin25 in really liking the part about Remus's habit of keeping people at a distance being unconscious, and that realization reassuring Tonks a little. That characterization feels just right.

Now I will go to bed happy. :)

Aw thanks, I'm really glad you liked it. :)

Well spotted! I've yet to find the perfect dancing temperature, since in the summer all the layers (knee-high socks, yellow underskirt, long sleeved white blouse, green dress) make you boil, but in the winter all the fabrics seem ludicrously light...

I'm very attached to the idea that the two of them are friends before they're anything else, and that that part of their relationship is just as important as any of the romantic or physical aspects, so I'm especially glad to hear that that works for you too.
