Yuletide fics: The Winter Wall + Three Men and a Chance at Love

Now that the Yuletide cat is out of the bag (poor dear, let me get it some shrimp), it's time for me to link to my stories, and also to wax lyrically about the fandoms, since I couldn't do that while I wrote.

Main story: The Winter WallFandom: Back Home - Michelle Magorian ( Read more... )

back home, three men and a baby, michelle magorian, three men and a chance at love, the winter wall, yuletide, fic talk

Oh, you wrote the Three Men and a Baby fic! I really enjoyed reading that! The polyamory just felt so completely natural, and the whole story was just lovely. I don't think I left a comment on it, I've been really bad about comments this Yuletide, but I very much liked it.

I was first introduced to Michelle Magorian's work as a kid through the radio play of Goodnight Mister Tom

Me too. Made me cry buckets. I don't think I ever read Back Home, though, I don't recognise the name Rusty. What's the Swedish title?

Thank you! You left a kudo, and I was pretty pleased to see that I could get one of you guys to enjoy a fic of mine that you didn't even know I had written. And I'm glad it felt natural - writing it felt pretty natural too. I seriously thought I'd have to struggle harder to make it fit than I did. I didn't end up having to handwave anything as AU.

The Swedish title of Back Home is Hemlängtan, and it's about a girl who's been evacuated to the US all through the war, and then comes home to a country where people go "ew, American!" every time she opens her mouth. Not exactly fun times. (In a bit, it's the opposite of Goodnight Mister Tom in that Will came from bad circumstances into good ones, and Rusty comes from good circumstances into bad ones.)

Actually that does sound familiar, and I definitely recognise the cover when I googled it. I'll have to pick it up the next time I'm in the library, because I want to read it now.

Do that! Not everything Magorian creates is gold, but I really think this one is.
