I didn't care much about Rose but like you I wept like a baby. I think the whole dream thing and music helped a lot. Music always helps with the tears.
And I agree, damn did she deliver. I didn't realise she was actually good before this XD
It was nothing spectacular, but it had the right feel to it. I tend to go "wait, why am I crying? Hm, lets listen to the music... ah, that's it" XD
I have just noticed it so much before, that the scenes that make me cry usually have this sad haunting music that just ups the sadness of the scene so much, as is it's purpose.
I tend not to notice the music unless it's something I've heard before or something VERY OVERDONE (Doctor Who, I'm looking at you). Of course, sometimes things can be noticeable and still effective, like the lullaby in Pan's Labyrinth.
*Listens to the music* You're right, it's very effective, understated but right, with that change in dynamics at the point of death. (Yes, I cried again.)
Unfortunately this made me more angry than it did you, sigh.
I knew going in that it was a pattern with this show, but yeah, it does make me a bit angry. I guess I'm just desensitized after all the shit I've seen on TV over the years.
or me that's kind of the whole point, the fact that he can't fully know or understand Caroline anymore, even if he knew the truth.
We don't know that, though. Maybe he couldn't. Maybe he could - Jeremy seemed to be doing mostly fine with Anna, and Elena/Stefan is working out fine too. I want Matt to be given the chance, and then maybe he'll squander it, but then at least it'll be because he's legitimately being an idiot and not because everyone has decided that he needs to be kept oblivious.
Apparently Damon's just running away from ~*~feelings~*~, poor woobie. Gag me now.
I think there are probably actors that could sell me on that, in an OMGWRONG way that wouldn't excuse their actions - but Ian Somerhalder isn't one of them. I liked Damon a lot better when he was just a happy-go-lucky psychopath.
I guess I'm still nursing some resentment over the fact that (IMO) Matt never properly appreciated Caroline when she was human.
Yeah, that's true. Of course, season 1 Caroline was... a little harder to appreciate, sometimes. ("Hey, Bonnie! I'm going to dress up as Scarlett O'Hara! Isn't that AWESOME!?") But yeah. I'm completely fine with the alternative solution, that is, Caroline dumping Matt once and for all without telling him anything. But this "I think I love you, and pardon me, but now I'm going to run off and be mysterious" stuff is unworthy to the show.
I don't have a DW account, but wanted to see the discussion there. so this comment is really in reply to some of your comments there. I just wish they'd kill some guys sometimes. Like a couple of Lockwood men, Rose's buddy, or that bartender vampire of Anna's? I think they do kill more women, but I think the women in this show are stronger, so their deaths are a little bit more remarkable. The psychopathic killer being Damon also means more random women are going to be killed.
and I like Jeremy. Don't kill him. I'd rather see Matt go.
Hm, point about Mason, but I don't think the rest of them are prominent enough to quite count. Recurring characters do tend to be women more frequently, which affects things, but I still think men get off easier on this show, by and large, even when the killer isn't Damon. (And Damon did kill Mason, so kudos for that.)

Either works with me. Finishing the job with John would work too.
Just wanted to say hey, I recently got into TVD and love them and stumbled on to your journal, and with all that talk about feminism and Lost Girl and Vampire Diaries I thought this would be a nice place to stalk. And I am telling you beforehand, don't wanna be another Stefan and having to fess up to it all way later! ;)
And I liked Rose a lot, loved that it showed us Damon not with a human girl he had to compell but actually with someone older and stronger! And I was sooo sad she died. Stupid show and their driving characters to stupid things and doing it while killing awesome women! ::kicks::
