doing what I should have done with the DVD, i.e. asking for HELP!

My mom offered to take the DVD player, and as I told her, I can't guarantee that it'll work with their old TV, but mine is worse than theirs and the store lady didn't say it would be a problem, so it might. OTOH, my trust in that store lady is not high right now. Does anyone know if there's a problem mixing new DVD/Blu-Ray players with old TVs? ( ( Read more... )

I would probably get a cheap multiregion at a price point where if it stops working in a year it won't be too bad. I hate the disposability of things but sometimes that's the best option. Otherwise I would probably research the region hacks prior to buying but even then it's not the best guarantee.

I managed to find a cheap model with an easy hack that's available from another store in the same mall, so I'm going to give that a try (and I hope it works out, this time!)

I have Lidl's Silvercrest and they are dirt cheap, region free and never caused any problems for me. I did have a high ebnd costly one at first and that one broke down in a year. My Silvercrest is like 4 years old by now and running just fine. The cost is 50€ if yo want all the goodies like HDMI, additional ports and WLan. Regionfree from the start and also plays Xvids, Quicktime and every vid format I've tried so far.

Thanks for the tip, but Silvercrests seem hard to get by, so now I'm going to try a Philips with an easy hack. I think...
