Oops. Mine. She is my new dictionary definition of terrifying prodigy. I just gotta assume when she speaks it is (also) in the gravelly tones of a chain-smoking 30-year-old cabaret singer.
Yours, she has that annoying child-voice that television loves but I have NEVER heard coming from, you know, a child.
I've been meaning to thank you for this post. I'd been vaguely aware of the existence of Judging Amy and was somewhat curious about it because I'm a big fan of Joan of Arcadia, and your description here was so vivid that it lead me to check my local TV listings to see if the show was on. As it turned out, CBS Drama is showing it every weekday, and while Lauren is every bit as awful as you describe, the show can cope with it (thank you, Tyne Daly!), and it's nice to get home from work and know that there will be an episode of JA to watch, though I usually save them up for a weekend mini-marathon.
I must have seen at least 30 episodes by now, and I think in all those, there was one single line that Lauren delivered like a human being. Alas, I can't now remember which episode, or which line.
Yay, I'm glad you're enjoying some JA! Fandom is often very cold to shows aimed at women, which is sad. Especially when there's Tyne Daly. (Which reminds me, I need to see some more Cagney & Lacey.)
If Lauren says any more lines like a human being, do let me know!

Aw actually I like this kid. But in theory...;-p
And yeah that voice makes me want to hurt puppies.

The kid in your clip, or in mine? Am confused now.
I don't think all child actor are evil (Britt McKillip rocks my socks, for one), but in general, they're encouraged to do all the wrong things.

I've heard something similar from children (and even adults) in pain; that back-of-the-mouth whine.
