To the list of things I shouldn't do when I want to study can now be added "rent The Stand". Which I did yesterday ( Read more... )

The Stand IS kind of crappy, but then in general I don't think Stephen King's stuff translates well to screen. And I love it despite its crappiness, so you aren't the only one. :-)

I agree with you completely about Corin Nemec and actually about all of the other actor stuff. I was surprised that I didn't hate Molly Ringwald as Fran -- I liked Fran okay in the book, but didn't love her, and I just couldn't see Molly Ringwald in the part -- but she was okay. Good enough.

I think you might as well wait to buy the DVD until you get a DVD player, unless you see it on a really good sale somewhere.

Yeah, well, there's this part in practically every Stephen King book I've read where I read and go "yeah, right, like *that's* gonna happen". So my expectations weren't all that high for plot and all that stuff.

Which is of course why I want DVD and not VHS. I don't want to watch all six hours in a row again any time soon, I want to watch the scenes when I feel like it.

So... wait, huh? Wait. Yeah. Probably good idea.

Pondering on your icon - I gotta do a "Any shape is Beautiful, but that would soud as good as BIB. Maybe "Beaty is transient" - BIT?

I gotta get out of this current mood :D

BIT sounds good.

I heard of the "chubby" girl in Love Actually and was reminded of Avanti and other films where "chubby" people are so very much not. So then I did an icon set. There are only four so far: Melissa McCarthy, Dawn French, Queen Latifah and Kevin Smith. I mean to make more eventually.

The Stand is definitely my favorite King novel and I liked the TV adaptation when I saw it (though I agree with you about the demonic effects issue).

One interesting little tidbit (I loved Rob Lowe as Nick) that you might not know: Lowe is completely deaf in one ear (I'm pretty sure it's his right). He did an interview once in which he said he's uncomfortable in certain social situations because he's always afraid someone will say something to him and he'll miss it.

No, I didn't know that. Then it must have been the direction. (There were times when I knew exactly where he had been looking, and it wasn't at the person talking, and yet he seemed to know what had been said. Colin sense. *g*) Or the writing, possibly. I mean, what with the lines they gave poor LSG...

Sigh. I have been obsessing over the stand recently - after watchign my DVD, then being convinced I needed to read the book again, the *whole* book (I usually just go read my favorite parts every now and then) and havign finished that task, I have damn Stand fanfiction in my head. I *refuse* to write Stand fanfic - but the damn story won't stop bugging me. I think I'll have to writie it and delete it immediatly, cause the story (in my head) is crap and not worthy or being shared in any capacity ( ... )

I'm interested in finding that out too. From what I've peeked, there are some pretty important changes.

As for the fanfic, I've been searching mostly for slash, although I've encountered some other fanfic as well. Crossovers seem popular, but of course they're about *other* characters. (And not that I mind seeing half the people of Buffy dying, but it's not The Stand, you know?) I've found some Nick/Tom, which creeps me out just a little, and then a little bit more because I can actually *see* it.

But of course, the entire story is full of that so-called "homosocial desire" and it's shown a lot more in the film, what with most of the girl characters being downplayed. I've even thought of making an icon of Adam Sorke saying "you're awful cute when you're angry, Stu"...
