I went up to NY this weekend to attend An's (mizo_no_oto) autumnal party, and it was very nice. Saw Gina a_priori there as well, and Anna a_literati. An had declared that everybody ought to dress in autumn colors for the party, and both Anna and I ended up going shopping for it. Yesterday I went to see Neil Gaiman's Stardust, and it was really really good. I'm not going to say that it was the most amazing movie ever and you should all see it because it will blow your socks off, since I think hyped-up expectations are the easiest way to ensure disappointment, but it was a truly solid, good fantasy movie. Ugly Betty is such a good show. I should be doing work, but I can't stop watching it. However, I will now stop and settle down with the work, but you all must watch it instead. It is clever, cute, funny, touching and addictive. It's adapted from a telenovela, so it has a dramatic arc, and a lot of good character development to go with the humor ( Read more... )

For my mother's birthday, Anna got her some Russian DVDs, among them the 1978 version of "The Three Musketeers." I remember loving that movie when I was younger, as did pretty much every one else in Russia.
