Thanksgiving of Dhoom.

Nov 25, 2006 00:03

Now that it's the day after Thanksgiving, and everyone's slowly awakening from their food-induced comas, I can update lj again. My family managed to forget again that leaving grocery shopping for the day of Thanksgiving itself is a very bad idea, and thus we were not able to get any tofurky. I was briefly upset, but then decided to substitute it ( Read more... )

I think it's also of note that the turkeys are so heavily modified genetically that the lucky soul to be pardoned normally doesn't survive much longer than a few weeks (month?) past his/her ceremony. As Singer and Regan note, the turkeys are actually incapable of normal reproduction. The factory farm is typically propagated by its workers, masturbating male turkeys and inseminating female turkeys by hand, because the turkeys are just too fat to fuck normally. yay capitalism.

*Mason, not Regan. I get my AR authors confused, which is funny because there are only three serious ones.

Thanks for the fun entry. :

You and I both subscribe to fatfreevegan! Cool coincidence. I haven't yet tried any of the recipes, though.

Have you seen this yet? If not, enjoy!

Thanks! It was a very well-written entry, only I thought parts of it were a bit simplistic. She seemed to want to paint this picture where trans people had been accepted, respected and valued before European colonialism arrived on the scene, and then, boom, oppression. Which is an understandably tempting idea, and focuses the reasons for transphobia on a recognizable historical occurence, but is hardly accurate. Some specific types of genderqueerness had been either embraced or tolerated and put to use in various communities, but these were by far not open to all kinds of genderqueer folk, and generally came with very set rules of conduct and social behavior that one then had to follow in order to have this accepted and valued status. It's kind of like when people say that homosexuals were wholly accepted by the Ancient Greeks, which is not exactly right either.

I kinda knew you'd be the only one who watched it. :-D

I especially like the really cheesy Bollywood dance videos, with everyone dancing in ripped up purple or pink tank tops and fishnet and booty shorts and lots of necklaces and earrings. I'm talking about the guys here, of course.

Hey--don't worry about the address thing. I'll be posting my card(s) on my LJ anyway. The poll's really for people who want paper copies, I probably should have clarified. ^^;

I wish I could dance like that.

I love the gratuitous cut-shots of the skimpily clad woman juxtaposed with the upraised, very muscular arms.

That's cause this is a promo and not the musical number itself. I guess they felt that with all the gyrating muscular man-action in there, they needed to show the guys that the female actresses would be doing their part for the cause as well. (Plus all the men are always half naked in these movies, anyway.)

There was a whole lotta buzz in Bollywood about one of the main actresses allowing herself to be filmed in a bikini for this role. Of course they had to show it. :-D
