So I just ordered Neil Gaiman's Murder Mysteries as illustrated by P. Craig Russell, and while I'm quite looking forward to that, it has come to my attention that P. Craig Russell is also the artist who did the portrait of Wilde in my icon. And he did it because he also happened to do a comic book version of his fairy tales ( Read more... )

I know what you mean. I've been looking for a decent Dorian Gray edition for five years now (I have an ugly cheap edition for students) and I just can't find one I like visually.

I had one I liked, in Russian. It was very very simple. It was a white cloth hardcover with a loose, somewhat abstract sketch of a slender young man in a frock coat, raising a gloved hand to the brim of his top hat and hiding most of his face in the process. It did not try for anything but a minimalist elegance, and it achieved it quite nicely. Sadly I have since lost the book...

I still say the best is the Barnes and Noble edition. He's not exactly blond, but close enough.

1. You should give it a shot.

2. I wonder if you'd like the weird illustrations in my copy of The Star Child.

I quite like the two penguin editions I have (lol addicted), one uses a picture of the painting The Coin Collector and one uses a portrait of a v arrogant looking young man who isn't that attractive but it's a good and interesting portrait.

Hahah! If they must use a real person, why not a nice cleaned-up portrait of Andrea Casiraghi?

This is actually really funny. It's like the only part he got right is the font.
