I'm taking this with a grain of salt for now. There's been so many rumours of his death flying around.

I would be really sad if he did die. He's done some weird things, but . . . He has educated a lot of people about wildlife and preservation.

Well, it's on the front news page for MSNBC, CNN and Yahoo, and the AP wire reported it so I don't know how much more proof you need...

Although I first saw it on the official Warcraft forums, where a bunch of total asshats were joking about it. I figured it was one of those stupid rumors so I started looking at news sites to confirm it, and was stunned to see it was true.

Watching CNN International on cable TV now and they're confirming it, talking to a reporter in Australia. :(

Oh my goodness! :(

Talk about a shocker. Of all the times people joked about how he would someday get in trouble with all the things he did, and now when it actually happens, it hits you with a surprise enough to take the wind out of you.

Dang, what a heartbreaker. Big hugs out to Terry Irwin and family for their loss.

Steve, this lion icon is for you.

Yeah, not to sound callous or flip, but this takes all the fun out of things. I won't be able to watch reruns of his shows and really laugh at his lunacy anymore, knowing what would eventually happen. The whole persona he cultivated, that wacky, fearless guy, is just sad now rather than whimsical ( ... )

I never knew the specifics on how they met, but yeah, that is a very cool story. All I knew was that she was a zoology buff from Oregan, a stone's throw away from where I live which I found pretty cool.

I understand where you're coming from on the idea of it being different to watch his shows, his antics, and all the fun and crazy things he did now through reruns. One would logically think he would get seriously hurt or even die when you took risks like that with potentially dangerous creatures.

But after seeing him do it and come out okay for so many years, you start thinking of guys like Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter, as being nearly invincible.

I guess that's why this was such a shocker.

Whoa... just shocked to hear that. I mean, of all the people, of all the ways to go... although, I suppose he went out while doing something he loves. Even though the sources are very reliable, a part of me feels like "this can't be real".....
