I dunno. AX has been a big disapointment every time I have gone. It feels more like an industry show than a "fan" show. Bloated, boring and just a huge waste of money. Like most "big" cons these days outside of Dragon Con.
I definitely know what you mean, but I also think a lot of my disappointment from '08 was related to one power-tripping coordinator. And he is gone. That, and I did a shit job as group leader for our skit. >_<
As for the money part, I actually don't spend a lot at AX- most of my money goes to food and the things I do in California afterward!
Yeah, I like to tell myself that the crazy had to happen in order to avoid it in the future.
Kenji is the guy who's been running the cosplay track at AX for years. He's a complete jerk and delights in the power and control he has over cosplayers at AX who do the masquerade and other events. He's finally being replaced by the far kinder and far more competent Ami, who's been working under him for years.
Talking about Cosplay Coordinators, can I talk you into becoming the Cosplay Director for Anime Alabama? We're holding it in Mobile, Alabama from June 5-7th. Let me know!
Damn!! I knew I should have trademarked that name ages ago!! Grrrr..... I originally pushed that as the name for a con in Huntsville (until Persacon came along) but I kept being told that the stigma of the "Alabama" name would kill any chance any con would have of being taken seriously. =D
LOL~ I like how the Kamina cape picture is one of me and nicole with it in the background xD
You should try fanime, if you ever want to try a non-local con again. Last year was my first year at it and it was AMAZINGLY relaxed, small compared to AX, and hey! Masquerade is the second day so you still have two days to relax at con afterwards! The only stress my group really had was getting there straight from moving out of the dorms/finals :B
Cuz it happened suddenly because of family shit and I didn't really broadcast the new username :X
Yeah, the whole beginning of summer thing is the hard part, but it is one helluva way to relax from finals xD Except for when you spend all of finals week finishing Masquerade costumes :B

I've thought about it, but Fanime's timing at the very BEGINNING of summer is just not my cup o' tea...
