For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, this past Sunday about five minutes after I got up I was presented by my uncle with a retirement visioning exercise that involved doing the if-you-could-invite-anyone-to-dinner thought experiment at different points in your life. Ironically, several of the more famous Indian independence activists corresponded with various Nazis during the early 30s, on the logic of "Well how can they possibly be worse than the British?" Gandhi wrote Hitler a polite letter at some point during that decade, though I think it went no farther than that; Nazi racial logic was inclusive of Indians (as the True Original Aryans, I think, which no), but it wasn't hard to tell after a little while that overt fascists were not going to be a more productive anti-colonial ally than the colonizers themselves ( ... )
