I'm boggling trying to picture a Game of Thrones vid about "childhood". I mean, I can see how you could do it. I know it has some really important child characters. I think it's just something in my brain that doesn't want to associate "childhood" with "Game of Thones".
Meanwhile, was that list of movies including "2001"… really supposed to be "movies that children could watch"? (Or should watch? Or even worse, "made for children to watch"?)
I probably saw the movie relatively young, myself; but just for a start, I defy anyone to even TRY to show "2001" to a child and get them to either pay attention or stay awake for the entire thing. And I say that as a fan of the movie. (And I totally intend us to watch it at some point since Diane has never seen it. That will have to involve wine, or something.)
Also, to make a recommendation -- not that I know of a specific vid, but included as a category for you to look for -- I would suggest trying to find vids to Rankin Bass stuff (there's GOT to be a vid about some of their stop-motion properties, doesn't there?), and also, much as it pains me to suggest it, Sid & Marty Krofft. I'd be shocked if there isn't some trippy vid out there celebrating HR Pufnstuf, Sigmund the Sea Monster, Land of the Lost, etc
( ... )
I made a vid once for The Professional (http://bironic.livejournal.com/188993.html), but it's not great, and re: suitability for this vidshow, it focuses a little more on Leon than Mathilda. I hope there are more out there, though! Love that movie.
Also I wonder if there is a vid for The Sixth Sense out there anywhere?
Yeah, I thought of that. I know there's a vid for The Others that showed at VVC quite a while ago, but I don't remember if it's too tightly focused on the mother to work (and besides if possible I'd like stuff that hasn't shown.)
Also, if you are thinking Iranian, immediately I am thinking Persepolis. But that seems like a really specific order. (i.e. someone having made a vid just about the childhood parts of the movie adaptation)
Oh, go for it! I only said I preferred non-European in that one place because I'd like to have some source that isn't Western, but that doesn't mean I'm not open to foreign-language stuff from Europe.
Joan of Arcadia, though that's not skewing as young as you'd like.
I swear I saw a vid for "Finding Bobby Fischer" once, and that's a terrific movie.
I agree with the Rankin Bass and Krofft rec above. There are also some currently-running terrific cartoons on PBS but I haven't seen vids for them (unsurprisingly). The nostalgia piece might net you more.
I actually thought about JoA, and I'm not ruling it out.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking - likely to get more out of the childhoods of current adults.
Kids in science fiction: cosmic_llin made me a very lovely Star Trek: TNG vid for festivids a few years ago that had all the kids and parents and de-aged characters etc. in it. Unfortunately, it looks like the streaming link is down? http://cosmic-llin.livejournal.com/224934.html

Oh! Disturbing! Any vids for The Professional?
Both good suggestions!
