So I think my fundamental issue with this show is this: You can have either the ragtag group of misfits dealing with mysteries the rest of the world knows nothing of, or the high-powered strike team supported by the high-powered multi-national organization. Not both. And if you're bringing #2 into it, I really want to have some evidence that

Yup, you've kind of nailed one of the issues I have with it.

It would help if they had some better actors for the ragtags. At this point I'm hoping that everyone except Coulson and Ming-Na dies. Horribly. I mean, they had Ron Glass standing right there in the pilot ready to be the science guy. They could be joined by Cobie Smulders once she finally marries Barney, and they'd have something. OTOH, they do seem to be getting decent actors for the villains (Ian Hart was terrific), so that's something.

They also almost lost me at gravitonium, despite years of previous exposure to Marvel's fake element names. I was thinking how great would it have been if they'd actually named it phlebotinum.

The plane is great, though. Very Kirby-ish, what with the way more engines than any aircraft could possibly need.

Yeah, the casting hasn't blown me away, and both Marvel and Whedon are usually good at that. Though I feel better about Skye than a number of people do, so that helps. (Ward, not so much.)

I have seen Ward compared to Riley Finn and found lacking...

I agree that Skye is the best of the bunch, although her boxing work on the stationary bag was pretty sad.
