Friendship bracelets again (ta for previous help, by the way. I'm going to try the place in Tooting Bec and then Tesco in Kingston if necessary). Now, I haven't made the things for years so I can't remember for myself, but one website I've found says that you should start off with about a yard of each colour string, which seems a bit much to me, ( Read more... )

It depends what kind you're making. Proper knotted ones will take a yard or so, but they a) take hours to make so would have to be sent home to be finished without assistance, and b) are beyond quite a lot of brownies anyway (I did it with mine last term, and about half a dozen did proper knotted ones). But everyone can make plaited ones, or hair wrapping was also v v popular (but may not fit yr plan)

Well, I was going to do a fairly easy style, which is the one I used to do as a youth, the top one here: http://www.mediamessage.com/kayton/GirlScouts/bracelet2.htm. Hopefully it'll be manageable. And plaiting is a good back-up option, possibly teaching them how to do four strand plaits.

I don't think the place in Tooting is that expensive - I can't remember how much though.
Could phone and ask them! They're on Balham High Rd - out of the tube and walk up towards Bal and they're on the left just past Halfords. Not open on Sundays, IIRC.

I think you need to wrap round as many different colours as you have - i.e. if you have four colours then wrap round four times. and then add a bit more for knotting the ends.

The basic instructions one looks about right to me - as long as you remember to knot it twice around each string...

I think I used to wrap three times round my wrist, then a bit extra for the ends....
