preparing the nest, and roasting in the process

I went up to school-town to unload some furniture into the new house. It's slowly starting to look like a home, if I could just find carpets to cover the poor wood floors. But either way, I have couches, and awesomely huge bookshelves, and all that jazz. I almost had the kitty to go with it, but that didn't work out as planned ( Read more... )

The house sounds really nice, especially the big bookshelves. I love books.

I hate heat and thunderstorms, too, although I definitely hate thunderstorms much much more. It's been hot and sticky and stormy here for the past few weeks, too.

NO WAAAAY, WICKED FTW.

And I truly wish we could have taken those storms for you - the weather's been fitful here, but no proper long thunderstorms, certainly nothing in the six hour range. I WANT that. And there you had to have them and they only do you an injury. Tsk. Poor planning on the weather's part, I say.

Big bookcases sound divine, though lack of cat is sad.

You put... carpets over a wood floor? On purpose? I mean, I know intellectually that this must happen as we are forever ripping up carpets when we move, but... huh. I guess I hadn't thought about people DOING it. Carpets are just THERE to be removed when possible. LOL, this is so at odds with my family's sensibilities, you've thrown me for a loop.

You can have them, I never want them. I've contemplated moving to the west coast several times to avoid this midwestern weather nonsense. There were 3 thunderstorms on Thursday, 3. That is just not right.

And I will try to soothe you, by carpet I do just mean large area rugs, not real carpet. And there is logic behind it, these floors are a hundred years old, and the floors have not been refinished or anything, probably since they were put in. It's beautiful wood, but they're all greyish and splotchy and faded, and I do not have the money or the inclination to redo them in a place where I am renting. But no no, put your mind at ease. I do not want to install carpet, true and proper carpet anyway, over the wood. Just lovely area rugs in which toes can be riggled and on which books can be read.

Ooooh, okay, rugs are pretty! We do have rugs. I mean, they're not pretty or toe-wriggly any longer because... ah. Four kids, a succession of four cats and two dogs... they're actually pretty disgusting if you look too closely. However it does please me to picture you with hardwood floors and a comfy rug over, with all of the bookshelves... so nice.

WANT. DO WANT. Tomorrow for preference! I'm supposed to work all day, eleven-thirty to dusk, and a thunder storm or three would be just the thing.
