Sometimes I feel so old!

I wonder sometimes how people take the fannish privileges (let alone the real world privileges) they have so for granted. I can remember when fanfic came in zines for which one had to (shock, horror) pay, and if it was an American zine and you were in the UK a zine would cost about the same amount as a hardback book (and sometimes more). I remember those days. As for the idiots who are telling the non-fandom world about our admittedly illegal links, ghods they need to get a clue. Keep it under the radar or there will be no links. :(((

Exactly. And from a totally selfish pov I *need* those links for some shows!

I remember those days.

I was loading some fanfic onto my iPod Touch the other day and was suddenly stunned by the incredible advances in technology. I can even remember when you couldn't record a TV show!

Ah, the days when if you missed the show, you really missed it. I like it better now.

So do I...much! I remember missing the end of a very good BBC teatime serial of Ivanhoe and being in a sulk about it for weeks *g*. Then there were the endless rows if programmes clashed on different channels. We ended up with a second television to stop my brother and I killing each other!

I join you in the head desk! Some people...

Also I too remember not being able to record stuff :) We were the first people in the street to have colour tv and when the first all colour broadcast came everyone sat in our lounge room!

There are still some programmes that surprise me by being colour because I originally watched them in black and white. Colour tv was such a thrill!

I wasn't in fandom pre-internet, but I agree with you absolutely. :-)

(I remember paying big bucks for the London Theatre Record to be shipped the other way across the pond, because that was the only way pre-internet I could keep up with all the theatre reviews....)

It's amazing what we take for granted now. My nieces once asked me what videos my brother had liked watching when he was little and it honestly took me a moment to remember that we didn't have them!

Many hugs back :)

I'm definitely getting that cushion so I don't damage myself too much with the amount of head desking I seem to do these days!

I presume young fans just don't realise they shouldn't do it, but with the amount of publicity illegal downloading gets these days they really should. Sigh...

I suspect they don't realise how public things are on the internet. I was trying to find credit for a photo the other day and Google took me on a lovely trip all over Tumblr. I'm quite sure that posters don't realise that their images are searchable like that, let alone download links.
