I've just gotten back from visiting my grandmother and other extended family Yea Unto The Fifth and the Sixth Generations in Michigan. (A hundred years ago, two brothers bought a ton of property on the shores of Beautiful Crystal Lake (murderous psychopath not included) in Beulah, MI. That's so very excellent.

I love that part of the state, I really do. My family's got deep roots in Traverse City, but we don't have an oatmeal feud, we just have a 30 year tradition of camping over Memorial Day weekend, EVEN IF THERE'S SNOW. And we're mostly tent campers, just to enhance the insanity.

And my grandmother told me a hysterical story about my grandfather making Marshall Field make his own damn breakfast 50-some-odd years ago because he was busy dealing with a flood in the restaurant's basement. I wonder if your family ever ate at my family's restaurant in Traverse City.
