I chatted with the park service folks before I went to Goat Lake on Sunday and they mentioned that the first 2.4mi is close to flat and the last 1.5mi gains most of the elevation. I may have booked my winter vaca back in Sept, but I've been dragging my heels about the last few details, like booking my first hotel room or my visit to the Alhambra. I had a plan for how we could do Aconcagua this December: it involved taking a mountaineering class in Lake Placid over a long weekend in Jan or Feb; maybe practicing winter camping on another weekend; either doing Mt. Less entertaining was the photo contest judging. The new austerity means instead of wine & cheese, they served potato chips, so the whole "social" was a bit grim.
