My favorite NYC charity is Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic (rfbd.org) -- thing is, it takes some training generally to volunteer time for them, though they do have a drive in April (ish) that various corporations gt employees to sign up for (I remember Morgan Stanley bringing in a bunch of people to read MBA textbooks). Outside of their special drive times, you have to submit to a reading test to make sure you're okay.
I used to read math and physics texts for them, which requires yet another test to be a specialist reader.
a) How do you know what her "real" hair color is? b) Perception is truth. As long as it looks natural, I don't care what her "real" color is and if I someday get to check the rug, I assure you I won't mind if it doesn't match the curtains.
serious commitment is giving platelets. call the new york blood folk and see if you qualify--you might be too HUGE for their standards. it takes about two hours, and they take blood from one arm and put it back in the other. me ma does it frequently. you can speak to her about it, if you want.
