So...is anyone going to Writercon?  I want to go and I promised myself when I spent the whole time bummed last time (2006!) that I would find a way this time, but now that it is TIME, I find myself waffling.

Tell me you're going.  Tell me you're not going but you wish you were. Tell me I'd be better off buying a netbook for less money and staying

Cheap is definitely part of my issue. (It would be like $700! ACK!!) There's also the fact that the beta stuff that had been listed in the plans did not materialize and that the three panels/workshops on relationships and sex are all at the same time.

My new plan is to take myself to a local hotel with the laptop and a bunch of books/sites about writing and just spend 2 days focusing on nothing else. Like a con, but with just me! Got any favorite books/websites on writing? Favorite exercises?

I don't really have any favorite sources for writing advice. I have a copy of Stephen King's "On Writing" and one of these days I'll actually read the whole thing and not just snippets. I also don't use any exercises; I just get ideas for openers or scenes and start writing and see where it takes me

There are people looking for roommates, so you could cut hotel costs...and the con suite offers generous and varied snacks for cutting food costs. And it's the awesomest of awesome and all the cool kids are going and we don't know if we'll be up for another one in the future....

Hiya! Strangely enough I was in a similar situation with the biggie conference for online learning. I could go ... it would be fun ... I tend to make contacts ... but ... in the end I decided to skip this year, do a much cheaper online conference instead and buy my Dell Mini (;-)

The netbook and create your own con are a great idea ... you know ... an online writer's conference has merits ... especially ... hmmmm ....
