Newhaven: Week Seven - The Sibly Family

After Veronica and Terry moved out, it was actually Maurice who became withdrawn, choosing to spend his night time hours expressing his feelings on canvas. He and his once sister-in-law had become very close, perhaps too close even, and he felt betrayed by her decision to move on with her new boyfriend.

Lucas on the other hand was dealing with the breakup of his marriage by the adage of “nothing gets you over the last one by getting under the new one”.

It wasn’t long before Gina Midlock moved in. Gina was a kind, although somewhat shy and serious woman (5/3/8/3/7) who loved learning. She also had a very romantic side, which while she felt bad for falling for a married man, made it nearly impossible for her to ignore their the three bolt chemistry she shared with Lucas.

With all the acting they did on that chemistry though it should have been no surprise when Gina quickly fell pregnant.

Her choice to leave the force when she took up with Lucas now seemed quiet fortunate.

She hadn’t given much thought to marriage and children, but when Lucas proposed, he was so sincere, she felt she couldn’t refuse.

Later as she cleaned up his plate from lunch she tried to ignore the feeling that her life was heading in a direction she hadn’t planned for.

As time passed Maurice seemed to be dealing with events better, although his decision to deal with the cockroaches caused by Veronica knocking over the trashcan was nearly a fatal one.

Being gifted with a magic lamp helped, although the Genie had to explain he wasn’t able to fulfil Maurice’s wish for “a decent meal”.

Maurice settled for bags of simoleons.

Lucas’ ex-wife and son Terry had moved close by which allowed him to spend lots of time with his son despite them no longer living in the same house.

Soon Lucas became a father to another son when Gina delivered a bouncing baby boy. The couple named their black haired, grey eyed son Clark.

They had chosen the name after Clark Kent as Lucas, having reached the top of the law enforcement career, was now Newhaven’s hero.

But every hero has his kryptonite, and for Lucas, that kryptonite was his brother Maurice.

He knew no one could know the truth of what happened to Matthew Passang. It would lead to Maurice’s destruction. And whilst they may not have been close, family was important to Lucas and he felt he had a responsibility to protect his brother. His condition, and the blood lust that went with it, was not one Maurice had asked for after all.

Lucas took care of the evidence, which although it went against every principle he stood for as Captain Hero, he felt he had no other choice. The brothers had a silent understanding that they would not speak of it.

Not even Gina knew. Lucas knew she would take Clark, who had just celebrated his first birthday, and move out without question if she felt he was in danger.

Lucas wasn’t prepared to lose another wife and son.
