Meet the Settlers

Charles:

After their humble lodgings had been constructed, all eleven settlers congregated at Guy Charles’ place. Guy had heard horror stories of moments like these; tales of enemies being made and even fights starting out on the very first day. Thankfully though, it appeared that would not be the case in Newhaven.

Maybe it was the serene location, but the members of the new community calmly began to get to know each other as well as taking time for quiet reflection on the beach.

As the day went on, friendships began to form.

As well as the beginnings of something more.

The accepting natures of the different settlers was truly demonstrated when Amy’s transformation earned little more than a raised eyebrow.

This was more than a small relief for many members of the new community who had already had not only had to deal with prejudice in their lives, but had invested everything they had in hoping Newhaven would be different.

It wasn’t all just good weather and socialising though. It had been decided that each household would be responsible for growing and catching their own food, which meant it was necessary to spend hours watering and tending the garden.

But even if he had to grow his own vegetables, eat burnt food (he was still getting use to only having primitive appliances), and deal with a severe sunburn, as the week ended, Guy felt very optimistic about the future of Newhaven.

Brandon:

Luke Brandon loves making new friends, but most of all he wants a family. He loves children and even wants to work in education. That isn’t an option at the moment, but he has begun working on the skills he’ll need once the community is in need of a teacher and in the meantime enjoys getting to know his new neighbours.

One of his neighbours is Amy Jones, who also happens to be the only single woman in the community. He finds her attractive, and the whole werewolf thing doesn’t even really bother him, but even the casual observer can see that Guy has his eye on her. Luke wouldn’t dream of causing a problem and instead decides he’s just happy to have her as a friend.

It’s not as if he lacks companionship, he has friends and even plays with a local stray occasionally. He can’t help but worry though, as beautiful as his new home is, it is isolated and he would hate to grow old without finding that special person and having the family he has always dreamed of.

Baruch:

The Baruch family settled into a peaceful routine during their first week in Newhaven. Skylar and Nicholas happily entertained when neighbours visited, but were also more than content, once their work in the garden was done, to focus on learning. Amy often found herself studying alongside her sister and brother-in-law as she had little else to do.

Luckily though her best friend Dion would come and save her from boredom. The two had met at Guy’s place, and bonded quickly, and soon found themselves finishing each other’s sentences and mimicking each other’s gestures.

She also had a regular visitor in the form of Guy himself, who soon made it clear he was infatuated with her. She felt herself falling fast for the town’s charismatic leader, but couldn’t help being self conscious, still getting use to her nightly change and struggling to believe any could really look past her lycanthropy.

It wasn’t an easy process, but eventually she succumbed to her feelings. While Guy wasn’t exactly turned on by Amy’s nightly transformation, it wasn’t the werewolf he saw when he looked at her, but the woman he had fallen in love with.

The first night Guy stayed over, Amy had been too self-conscious to do anything but cuddle and share a few kisses before falling asleep. In the morning however, no longer her hairier self, she was determined to show Guy that she too loved him.

Nicholas made a few inappropriate jokes, but she knew she had her sister and brother-in-law’s support. She was lucky how much support they had given her since her transformation, especially as she hadn’t put in much effort into her relationship with her sister, or her new husband, for quite some time.

Although Skylar was very happy for Amy, she couldn’t help but be jealous of how fun and carefree her sister’s relationship appeared to be. She and Nicholas had been trying for a baby, yet despite their very dedicated efforts, she had yet to fall pregnant. Even the mysterious magic lamp she found at their doorstep didn’t seem to raise her spirits.

Nicholas wanted to start a family too, but was much less concerned than his wife that it hadn’t happen yet. He constantly assured his wife that all would be well, yet he couldn’t help but worry that when she didn’t think he was looking, there was an unmistakable sadness in her eyes.

Chang:

Jin and Xun, despite being twins, didn’t have the strongest relationship when they arrived in Newhaven. Whilst they still constantly bickered, living in the same house in the same small community has made the brothers closer than they have ever been, and they are both happier for it.

Jin and his wife Lillian had plans to begin a small home business selling collectables they found on the beach, such as shells and coloured glass, as well as painting by Xun. Their plans had to be put on hold though when Lillian fell pregnant seemingly instantly upon their arrival. Xun got along very well with his sister-in-law, and despite all his teasing, loved his brother, and was happy that they would soon be parents.

Jin and Lillian too were excited by the prospect of their first child. The pregnancy had come earlier than they had planned, but they were both eager to meet their new son or daughter.

In the early hours of the morning, Lillian delivered a brown eyed, raven haired daughter. The happy parents named their daughter Lin, her name meaning beautiful jade. Lin was absolutely doted on and the Chang family had many visitors coming to congratulate them and see the first born baby of Newhaven.

Even Xun, who declared he had no interest in babies, was absolutely besotted with his niece, and would even change her diaper without complaint.

It seemed in no time at all, it was time to celebrate Lin’s birthday, and it didn’t take long for her parents to realise they had a very outgoing toddler on their hands (7/10/7/3/3).

Lin continued to be the centre of her parents’ world, and her constant requests for attention, or to be read to, were, more often than not, given in to.

She also continued to share a special relationship with her Uncle Xun.

It wasn’t long after Lin’s birthday that the family learnt that they would soon be welcoming another baby into their home.

Maxwell-Spencer:

Dion once commented to Leo that their relationship was a bit like a fairy tale; the rich handsome man falls in love with an orphan despite his family’s disapproval. Leo pointed out the orphan wouldn’t have been another man in most children’s bed time stories, to which Dion retorted he was just putting the fairy back in fairy tales.

It was certainly true the newlyweds had come from vastly different back grounds, Leo, or Leonard as his parents called him (back when they were speaking to him), had, like Guy, come from money. He too struggled when it came to the primitive nature of their new home, but knew when it came to it, he would give up everything for Dion.

Dion on the other hand had definitely lived in worse, but despite his pleasure seeking nature, he also had a very practical side, and agreed to work on his mechanical abilities to help Guy establish electricity and running water for the community.

They had struggled in the early days of their relationship; Dion didn’t fit in with Leo’s friends just as Leo was completely out of place with Dion’s. In Newhaven though, they made friends easily, and found they had company over most nights.

The couple hadn’t made the journey to Newhaven alone though, Clyde Darcy had joined them in their new home, and the three lived together comfortably, equally sharing duties and responsibilities.

Clyde too was pleased with the open minded and accepting nature of his fellow settlers, it meant he felt free to study and practice his magical arts.

It seemed Clyde wasn’t the only maker of magic in the neighbourhood when the household was gifted with a magical lamp.
