Title: More precious was the light
Summary: No tiger is as dangerous as a mother protecting her sons.
Author's Notes: AU. Does, in fact, pretty seriously alter just about everything since... okay, remember the Judas Contract? Everything after that is radically changed, by virtue of making one thing different.

I adore Nightwing 80-82. It shows an almost perfect characterization of the Dick/Slade dynamic.

I loved this fic as well by the way. It could turn into a very interesting AU and I would love to see how Joey's powers would have developed if he never had any contact with the Titans and Slade was dead from an early age.

If you are sending out scans of the Deathstroke series I would love to get in on that mailer, if you don't mind of course, early canon Slade is amazing.

*draws sparkly hearts all over those issues* With the snark and the clear respect and the *history* and oh, Devin, YES.

Thanks! I'm not sure I could handle writing lots in this world, because SLADE DEAD NOES, but yeah. Lots would've changed.

Joey probably wouldn't have changed that much in terms of his powers, because he developed a pretty solid handle on those while he was with Adeline, but his personality probably would have been pretty focused on his mother and pretty closed off.

Not at all. I am always willing to send people canon. It's two in the morning here, I might wait to send out too much, though.

Thank you! I... this is probably the first Slade-dies story I've ever written where someone else wasn't holding my hand the entire time.

Grant isn't so very different from canon!Grant. Joey, however... a Joey who never met the Titans is a Joey who had no one really meaningful in his life except his mother. A Joey who never became Jericho.

Adeline. Oh, Adeline. I *love* that woman, and almost no one writes about her. She... I am, actually, in the process of making a fansite about her, because she was strong and smart and skilled and kicked utter ass and on the Newsarama boards I was playing in, people had forgotten her name.

This really was kind of a rocks fall, everybody dies kind of story. I'm sorry I killed you, Titans!

And I have to wonder how Wally felt when he heard the news, having quit not long before.

I appreciate the comment, and am glad you enjoyed.

Personally I explain away the evil Jericho thing as Joey still Azareth souls haunting him. So I willing not to crusify Johns, unlike some *cough*Willingham* *cough*Leslie*cough*.

Joey doesn't become Jericho! The Titans get squished!

But oh, Adeline. Is so completely herself here, and gloriously strong.

Awesomely done, sweetie.

Slaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaade. *sniffle*

This is what she'd intended to have happen when she shot Slade. It wasn't in the plan to have him live.

*smiles* Thank you.

Adeline and Zoe would've gotten on well, I think.

But she hears of it when he dies, fighting those children, and she hangs up the phone and stands in the dark and curses her husband's name once, quietly, under her breath, and herself for not training her boy well enough.

Damn. What a *fantastic* phrase. And so very much her.

Although Slade's death broke my heart. It, and the aftermath, feel just too real, too... *flails* Real.

:D That was the line that made me have to rush upstairs and start typing. Because *Adeline*, YES THAT.

It broke my heart, too. And this is what she'd wanted.

Well, obviously, not so much with the Titans dying, but without Deathstroke to refine her, Terra had no problems just killing them in an earthquake: she heard of a H.I.V.E contract being offered and infiltrated them on her own.

I'm glad you thought the death was well-done.

I half expected her to don orange and blue and go out to right wrongs and triumph over evil.

The Batverse is bad for the brain.

You and Chevauchee both. She actually asked me if Adeline would become Deathstroke II, and I shrieked.
