The Judas Contract is really the most important source for Slade's backstory pre-Deathstroke. It's still in print and is reasonably easy to get hold of. Also, it's one of the premier sources for Adeline's characterization/backstory.
Slade also had his own series, Deathstroke, which came out in '91. It had a 60-issue run and is really hard to find now, alas. A friend of mine is sending me .cbrs of them, and I have scans of the first ten. I can send them to you, if you like.
That's also a really excellent source for Slade's tangled emotions re: Adeline and his sons. And the various other women in his life.
Okay, you know all those jokes we make about Dick's sex life? Slade sleeps around -- at least in canon -- *way* more often than Dick does. Not even kidding. The man sleeps with everybody. But unlike Dick, who has been married and has been engaged at least twice, he has never married anyone but Adeline.
And I don't think he ever will. Watch DC have him bring out a wife from the wings, now that I said that.
Nightwing 80-82 are some of my favorite issues of Dick and Slade interacting. I'm also very fond of a great deal of New Teen Titans canon, especially NTT 86.
... Look, it would probably be easier if I just e-mailed you all my comics. I always approve of getting more people into my corner of the fandom.

I loved this fic as well by the way. It could turn into a very interesting AU and I would love to see how Joey's powers would have developed if he never had any contact with the Titans and Slade was dead from an early age.
If you are sending out scans of the Deathstroke series I would love to get in on that mailer, if you don't mind of course, early canon Slade is amazing.

Thanks! I'm not sure I could handle writing lots in this world, because SLADE DEAD NOES, but yeah. Lots would've changed.
Joey probably wouldn't have changed that much in terms of his powers, because he developed a pretty solid handle on those while he was with Adeline, but his personality probably would have been pretty focused on his mother and pretty closed off.
Not at all. I am always willing to send people canon. It's two in the morning here, I might wait to send out too much, though.

Yeah, those rock, and it would still be a lot quicker. I can send you the first ten Deathstroke issues, as well as various scattered issues of NTT canon.
