From the Soul to the Song
Verse Eighteen

Not even twenty four hours after the incident where Super Junior had nearly lost a member, Kibum had dragged that member off to train. Donghae had eagerly offered to come along, but Kibum had been firm in his refusal. All the man had wanted to do since Eunhyuk had woken up was to cling to him. Kibum couldn’t really blame Donghae, but somehow he was sure that would be less then effective in Eunhyuk’s training.

Instead he had dragged the man to the weapons building, where he had armed them both with practice daggers and they began to work. It took Kibum only a few minutes to see that Eunhyuk’s lack of training was, in essence, crippling him.

“Not like that,” Kibum told him with as much patience as he could muster. “The biggest advantage to our daggers is the fact that we can be quick with them and slip under someone’s guard. If you keep flailing around like that you’ll never be able to do anything to even get close to your enemy.”

Eunhyuk released a frustrated sigh. “I’m trying.”

“I know you are,” Kibum replied. He closed his eyes and tried to remain calm. Obviously this method of teaching wasn’t working; perhaps he needed a different approach.

“Alright,” Kibum said at last. “Dance.”

“What?” Eunhyuk asked confused. “I thought we were practicing.”

“Eunhyuk, didn’t you agree to do whatever I told you?”

“Yes, but-“

“No, buts. Do as I tell you. Dance.”

Eunhyuk sighed, but began to let his body move to music only he could hear. It took a moment for him to find the rhythm but once he did, his body fell into the familiar patterns. Kibum watched each move carefully looking for one in particular.

“There!” he called, immediately after Eunhyuk had executed an elaborate series of sharp pops and locks.

“What?” Eunhyuk asked, confused as he stopped dancing altogether.

“Do the last move again.”

Eunhyuk shrugged and did as he was asked. “That?”

Kibum nodded. “Now do just the end, where you take your arm out and flick your wrist.” Eunhyuk was puzzled but obeyed. Kibum nodded and picked up a practice sword. “Do it again,” he told Eunhyuk.

This time when the other man obeyed, Kibum swung the sword so that Eunhyuk’s practice dagger hit the wooden blade and turned it away from his body. Eunhyuk blinked in confusion, and Kibum laughed.

“That is how you turn away a sword,” Kibum said with a smile.

“But I don’t get it,” Eunhyuk said, puzzled still.

“Everyone has been teaching you wrong,” Kibum told him, sharing the revelation he had just had. He retrieved his own practice daggers and set the sword aside. “Now this time, I don’t want you to try to block or stab or anything. I want you to dance, just like you do with Donghae during Don’t Don.”

“But that is choreographed,” Eunhyuk protested.

“Are you telling me you can’t make up choreography on the spot?”

“I can but I don’t see how that will matter,” Eunhyuk muttered.

“Just shut up and dance with me,” Kibum told him before lunging forward swinging his own mock weapon.

It took a few minutes for Eunhyuk to figure out how to adjust his dance to another person who was wielding weapons, but once he did, Kibum was very pleased. Not only was Eunhyuk quick with his moves, his pattern became unpredictable once he fell into a rhythm of his typical form of dance.

By the time Kibum called their session to a halt he had been hit several times by Eunhyuk’s mock weapons. Kibum laughed as he flopped onto his back on the practice mat. “I can’t believe we have all been going about this the wrong way. You can’t fight, but you can dance. We should have thought about this sooner.”

Eunhyuk laughed with him, “Well they always say that dancing is like two things.”

“And what is that?” Kibum asked.

“Well fighting and, uh, sex,” Eunhyuk said hesitantly.

Kibum laughed, “Well you can fight alright now, and if the noises Donghae makes are any indication you aren’t half bad at the sex thing either.”

Eunhyuk blushed. “Sorry,” he mumbled.

“For what?” Kibum asked quietly as he turned his head to look at the man beside him.

“For sleeping with Donghae. I know it bothers you that we have to share him. I’m sorry.”

“You know,” Kibum began as he shifted onto his side and propped himself up on an elbow. “They say you should never say sorry unless you really mean it because the word really means that you will never do that action again. I know that is a lie.”

Eunhyuk’s blush deepened. “Yeah probably,” he said softly.

“The way I see it the only reason it bothers me is because I have to share him. Well I have to share you too, but right now there is no one here but us,” Kibum leaned closer until their faces were only an inch apart.

“But Kibum, I thought you didn’t-“ Eunhyuk began, confused.

“Hyukjae,” Kibum cut him off. “Shut up and dance with me,” he murmured before leaning in to press their lips together and covering the other man’s body with his own.

It had surprised everyone when they had returned to their training the next day and Eunhyuk was suddenly more than able to hold his own. Donghae had demanded to know what they had worked on the day before, but Kibum and Eunhyuk had shared their own smile and agree with one another never to tell him Eunhyuk’s secret.

Donghae had been further puzzled by the fact that Kibum’s jealously hadn’t really disappeared completely but seemed to not be directed in one place anymore. More than that, it seemed to be overlapped by a feeling of playful competition and pure affection. In fact he wasn’t sure if he or Leeteuk had been more surprised when they had walked into the living room to find Kibum pinning Eunhyuk to the wall and kissing him senseless.

Despite the changes, he wasn’t going to complain about the newly found harmony in their relationship. In fact they had all been getting along so well that Heechul had thrown a pillow at them and told them all to take it to their room. He had claimed that their little puppy love was so sweet he was getting cavities.

Then he had proceeded to tell Ryeowook that if he and Yesung ever got to be that way he would be glad to put them out of their misery. Ryeowook had smiled at him and then turned to Yesung, to whom he proceeded to spend the next five minutes cooing to in a high pitched cute voice. Heechul had thrown up his hands in frustration and turned to Hankyung. He had spent the next several minutes telling him that if he ever thought that was a good idea he would never be able to make pretty babies.

Hankyung had, in the most understanding manner, placed his hand on Heechul’s arm and said, “It’s alright sweet heart, I know all this gentleness is just too much for you,” in the sweetest voice possible. Heechul had dissolved into incoherent syllables which were quickly covered by every other member exploding with laugher.

The next few days were spent in easy companionship among the group. They worked on perfecting the strategy that they would be using, but more importantly they worked on mending the rift that had grown between them. Leeteuk was pleased to see his family setting into something much closer to their normal routine, if anything here could be called normal.

Still, they were surprised to see Vidyagauri appear on the second to last day of their allotted week. “Well long time no see,” Kangin said in a friendly manner, as she stepped into the dining room shortly after they had finished their noon meal.

“I am sorry, I was otherwise engaged,” Vidyagauri told them.

“So what brings you here today?” Leeteuk asked her.

“I came to invite you all to the festival that will be taking place this evening. It is a celebration of the gift of the Ensouled. The people of Sanctuary would be honored if you would attend,” she told them with a smile.

“What typically goes on there?” Heechul asked out of curiosity.

“There is much celebrating and music. All Ensouled are invited to participate in a musical presentation if they wish. There will also be food, dancing, and drink for you all to enjoy.”

“Wait, when you say drink, are you referring to simply wet stuff or stuff with actual alcohol content?” Kangin asked.

Vidyagauri laughed lightly. “You will be able to find both. In fact I do believe much of the drink there will be to your taste.”

“Well I’m in!” Kangin declared.

She smile lightly, “If you do decide to attend you will find the proper attire for the night in your rooms. Please be ready to go in an hour.”

“What are we waiting for?” Kangin declared leaping to his feet. Vidyagauri laughed again.

~♪~♪♫♪~♪~

“This is the proper attire?” Heechul asked irritably an hour later. They had gathered on the lawn just outside their dorms all dressed in the simple robes that they had found in their rooms. The outfits were simple in design and hung down to the ground with long sleeves that ended neatly at their wrists. The only difference in each members outfit was the colors. Each element was wearing colors that matched the rest of their element teams, while Henry wore a plain black one.

“At least they aren’t making you go naked,” Kangin said with a smirk.

“Don’t worry,” Yunho reassured them as he and the rest of his group along with SS501 made their way over. They were dressed in simple but color coded traditional Korean garb.

“Why exactly do you get to wear that, while we have to wear this?” Heechul asked while gesturing wildly.

“Because,” Yunho smirked. “You all are the guests of honor this year. Don’t worry. This is just the beginning. You’ll get more added to it when we get there.”

“Where exactly is there?” Leeteuk asked.

“Well,” Hyunjoong began, but he was cut off as their mode of transportation arrived.

“You’ll find out when we get there,” Yunho told them with a smirk. “See you all later,” he waved cheerfully as he climbed into one of the horse drawn carriages that had just arrived.

“Really?” Kangin asked in disbelief. He gazed at the carriages in shock. The horses, who appeared to have no driver, pawed the ground impatiently.

“Uh I guess we should get in,” Leeteuk suggested and the rest of the members nodded and climbed into the carriages.

~♪~♪♫♪~♪~

It turned out that Yunho had been corrected. The moment the carriages had stopped, they had been ushered away by people that they hadn’t even known had existed. Some of their experience with changing clothing and getting their makeup done, made this entire experience easier.

Thirty minutes later, Heechul was blinking in shock at his own reflection, when one of the women who were responsible for it appeared. She bowed deeply behind him. “Weaver of Fire, I would like to present your Singers.”

She backed out of the room and Siwon entered in her place. Over his under robe he had put on what Heechul could only call another robe. It reminded him strongly of a kimono in its design but it seemed to have no noticeable seams. It wrapped around his body in a way that hugged his torso displaying his strength, but left enough space free on his legs that he had no trouble moving. Heechul hadn’t been able to figure out how the woman that had helped him to dress had closed his own outfit and he could see no indication of it on Siwon’s either.

Where Heechul’s outfit was a gleaming gold, Siwon’s was a fiery orange. Across the fabric ran strange yet elegant patterns in gold. Around the man’s waist was an elaborately designed belt. On it, a pattern was beaded so that it seemed to shimmer and shift like living fire. It closed at his right hip and from it, two beaded tassels hung. It was clear that it did not really hold the outfit together in anyway but instead completed it.

Heechul had never thought that he would enjoy seeing a man in makeup after all that they wore, but he had to say that he had been wrong. Siwon’s eyes had been lined with black, drawing attention to them. Above them was the briefest hint of orange shimmer that glittered when moved. What really drew Heechul’s attention was the small mark beside his left eye done in gold. It was nearly indistinguishable until he moved and the light caught it, but Heechul could see that it was the mark of their element. The same dust that lay above Siwon’s eyes was scattered through his hair making it shimmer as well. Heechul couldn’t put his finger on what it was that drew himself to the man but something did.

“If you weren’t so sure you were straight I would pin you that wall and fuck you senseless,” Heechul said lowly.

Siwon blushed. “Language Heechul,” he managed to say.

“Besides,” Hankyung commented as he stepped in behind Siwon, “You would have to either figure out how to undo his clothing or destroy them, neither of which you are capable of.”

Heechul’s response caught in his throat as he took in the sight of his lover. Hankyung was dressed nearly identically to Siwon, with the exception that his outfit was crimson. He wore the same belt on his waist and the same display of makeup on his face. In line with his outfit, Hankyung’s makeup was a deep red. His gold symbol was just to the side of his right eye instead of his left like Siwon’s.

Heechul crossed the room in three steps and plastered himself to Hankyung. “I don’t know what they did to you, but it is hot,” he murmured before pressing his lips to Hankyung’s passionately.

Hankyung indulged him for a moment before pushing Heechul gently away. “Let me, look at you.”

Heechul himself was a lot to take in. His outfit was gold, with patterns in red and orange weaving their way across it. He wore the same belt as his Singers, and like them wore makeup done in gold like his outfit. On his forehead, half hidden by his bangs, he wore the mark of his element.

The most startling difference was his hair. All throughout it delicate things had been woven. Even though they had left his hair down, they had somehow managed to scatter several tiny shinning gold beads. Heechul hadn’t been able to figure out how they had been secured but he rather liked how they sparkled when he moved and they caught the light.

His favorite part of the outfit was the last piece he had been given. It was a necklace created out of tiny gold beads woven into intricate patterns. At the center of the thin band was a clear crystal that when worn would sit at the hollow of his throat. When it had been in his hands the crystal had been empty, beautiful but empty. The moment it was secured and had touched his skin, it had been filled with a small flame.

“You look,” Hankyung paused as if searching for the right word.

“Breathtaking I know,” Heechul preened.

Hankyung laughed and pulled the man to him. “Something like that. As strange as it is, this all feels right.”

Heechul hummed lightly and pressed their lips together again instead of answering. They shared in the kiss until Siwon cleared his throat lightly. “Maybe we should go meet up with the others,” Siwon suggested.

Both men sighed, and Hankyung released Heechul only to link their arms together. “Stay close my Weaver,” Hankyung murmured into Heechul’s ear. “I want you within groping reach at all times.” Heechul chuckled but allowed himself to be led out of the smaller room, down the hall, and to the large entryway where the rest of Super Junior was waiting.

“We were afraid you got lost,” Leeteuk scolded as soon as they appeared. He was dressed nearly identical to Siwon and Hankyung. His outfit was a light lime in color with patterns in a darker green. He wore a belt much like theirs, only his was designed to appear as if it was crafted out of wood. His makeup was done in a pale green above his eyes and through his hair. He wore the symbol of earth in a dark metallic green beside his left eye.

“Or that you had undone everything that had just been done to you by making out,” Kangin leered. He was wearing a forest green outfit with lighter green designs on it. His belt matched Leeteuk’s as did the way his makeup was done, although in forest green. The symbol of his element was on his forehead much like Heechul’s. Heechul had no idea how it had been done but small dark green metallic beads had been woven into Kangin’s short hair. On his neck was a necklace much like the one Heechul wore but matching the green beads in his own hair. Inside his crystal was a tiny mound of dirt from which a very small plant was growing.

Leeteuk sighed. “Please don’t make me have to hunt you down. I’ve already done that once.”

Kangin grinned and glanced to the water team. Kibum met his look with a challenging one of his own. Eunhyuk was dressed in a sky blue with patterns in swirling aqua, while Kibum was dressed in a deep midnight blue with the same aqua patterns. Between them, with Kibum’s arm wrapped around his waist, Donghae stood wearing a beautiful aqua with midnight blue and sky blue designs.

All three wore a belt that seemed to be made from gentle rolling waves. Their makeup was done in the way the Heechul was being to think of as the style for the night, in colors that matched their outfits. Kibum and Eunhyuk both had the symbol of water beside their right eyes done in metallic aqua. Like Heechul and Kangin, Donghae wore his symbol on his forehead. Small metallic aqua beads were woven into his hair and his necklace was created from the same. His crystal contained tiny drops of water that constantly shifted and moved.

Donghae looked guilty at Leeteuk’s comment and blushed faintly. “In his defense,” Kibum said for him. “It was my fault. He was only feeling my lust with his empathy. That is why we were delayed.”

“Could we please not discuss our sexual desires for our male members,” Kyuhyun asked as he pinched the bridge of his nose. His outfit was a canary yellow, that almost made Heechul snicker. The designs of it were done in the soft tangerine orange of Shindong’s outfit and the gentle salmon of Sungmin’s. Like everyone else, his makeup was done the same. On their waist the trio wore belts that looked like they were made from fluffy clouds. It matched the tiny clouds that were drifting around in Kyuhyun’s necklace. In his hair, instead of matching beads, tiny bells had been woven, so that if he moved his head in the slightest they would produce a jingle of music.

Sungmin laughed and elbowed his Weaver, the symbol of air on the left side of his face, the same as Shindong’s, caught the light and shimmered briefly. “Just call it education,” he said with a smirk.

Kyuhyun groaned, and tipped his head causing the bells in his hair to jingle. “This is ridiculous.”

“Are you sure I can’t?” Yesung mumbled to Ryeowook.

“No, you can’t make me look like Legolas,” Ryeowook snarled.

“But you look just like an elf.”

“I do not!” Ryeowook protested. Despite his efforts, the pure white outfit with silver accents, coupled with the white makeup and silver symbol by his right eye, gave him an otherworldly look.

Zhou mi laughed lightly and then stifled it knowing that his own cream themed outfit and makeup did nothing if not make him look the same.

“It will be painless. I swear,” Yesung said with a smirk.

Ryeowook wanted to reach up and rip the small silver beads out of the man’s hair one by one hoping that it would hurt. “No,” he said firmly.

Heechul shook his head. He had to admire the silver outfit that Yesung was wearing though. The crystal at the man’s neck seemed to simply glow a soft pale white, while the belt around the entire team’s waists seemed to shift colors constantly with their movement.

“Sorry I am late,” Henry called as he joined them. He was dressed in black with swirling patterns in every color that every other member was wearing, decorating it. The combination should have been blinding and chaotic but for some reason it looked not only harmonious but beautiful at the same time.

Unlike every other member, Henry had no extra makeup on his face or hair. He did, however, have a mark that had been added to his face just like every member. His began underneath both eyes, high on his cheeks, and curled around and up to cover his forehead in an elegant design that encompassed the symbol of every element.

“It’s alright,” Leeteuk reassured him.

“If only the fans could see us now,” Kangin said with a smile.

“They would be tickled silly I am sure,” Leeteuk replied.

“My humblest apologies for the intrusion,” a young woman said as she entered and bowed low. “Would you do us the honor of performing for us?”

Leeteuk smiled at her. “Of course,” he answered without asking the rest of the members.

“Please, follow me,” she told them as she straightened, turned, and lead them out of the building.

Character Information

AN: See I promised you all the trio would work out eventually. Ok so I didn't directly promise it but I didn't want to spoil anything. This is the promised fun and the next chapter will contain even more of it. Everyone needs a break right? I hope I was able to articulate my ideas about the outfits clearly to you all.

I have a question for all of you. Most of this story was thought of and written while listening to music. I have specific scenes that I came up with while listening to one song or another. Would anyone be interested in me arranging them into an album? I would of course include all relevant chapter and scene reference. What do you think?
