From the Soul to the Song
Verse Seventeen

Heechul snarled and cut loose with another wall of fire. Once again it was met with a wall of water that simply canceled both of them out and turned them into thick steam. Kyuhyun waved his hand, clearing the area with a quick gust of wind.

“Will you stop doing that!” Heechul ordered Donghae. Donghae simple smiled in return and pulled another stream of water from the river behind him.

“Heechul,” Kyuhyun said patiently, or as patiently as he could get with the man. “Hyunjoong and Jaejoong will simply do the same thing, and they won’t hesitate to shoot through it to get at you. You have to be ready and use it to your advantage.”

“Who died and made you king? Why don’t you step up and see how you like playing with my fire?” Heechul formed a small ball of fire directly over his outstretched palm. Kyuhyun narrowed his eyes at it and a moment later the fire winked out of existence.

Heechul looked puzzled for a moment and attempted to recreate the flame. When nothing happened, he leveled a glare at Kyuhyun. “What did you do?” he accused.

“You can’t create fire without flammable gasses. I just removed them from the space around your hand. That is why I am handling Yunho and Changmin, but we need you to learn how to deal with water,” Kyuhyun responded. “Now again but this time your Singers get involved.

Heechul sighed. “Fine,” he waved his hand and both Hankyung and Siwon were armed. Heechul glared at Kyuhyun again as if daring him to prevent his fire, to which Kyuhyun simply smirked. With a wave of his hand, Heechul created a wall of flame that he sent rolling towards Donghae and his team. Like the previous time Donghae met it with a wall of water.

Unlike the previous times, this time when the thick steamed covered the area it also covered four well armed Singers. There was the sound of clashing metal and Kyuhyun let it proceed for a moment before clearing the area with a gust of wind.

Siwon had his blade raised and it was caught firmly by both of Kibum’s daggers. The men were smiling at each other as if in challenge. Eunhyuk however had not fared as well. His daggers were not equipped to stop a sword only to turn it away, something that he wasn’t able to do very well.

The moment the steam cleared several things happened at once. Eunhyuk released a half terrified pained whimper that drew all eyes to where he and Hankyung stood. Their eyes flicked from the two men, to their weapons, to the crimson blood dripping onto the ground.

“Hyukjae!” Donghae screamed, starting towards his friend.

Kibum was faster. He snarled and leapt back to disengage with Siwon. In his anger he rushed towards Hankyung with his daggers bared.

“Kibum!” Siwon called, but the man paid him no head.

Hankyung, with a blank expression on his face, pulled his sword free of Eunhyuk’s body with a sickening wet sound and lifted it just in time to deflect one of Kibum’s daggers as he jumped backwards to avoid the other. Kibum pressed the advantage and delivered a sharp kick to the man’s middle.

The Chinese man staggered back a few steps with one arm around his stomach trying to catch his breath. Kibum stayed planted firmly between him and Eunhyuk with his weapons bared threateningly. Suddenly Hankyung’s eyes widened and his sword clattered from his hands.

“Oh God,” he gasped as his eyes widened. “I didn’t,” his cry of sorrow stopped him from saying anything further.

Keeping his eyes on him, Kibum backed towards Eunhyuk. When Donghae let out another pain filled scream followed by loud sobbing, Kibum gave in and turned to rush back to them. Eunhyuk had collapsed onto his back and was clearly fighting to stay awake. Kyuhyun was crouched on one side of him, pressing down on a spot on his lower stomach. The younger man’s hands were covered in blood. Donghae knelt at Eunhyuk’s other side, sobbing, holding the man’s hand and mumbling incoherently.

Kibum skidded to a halt and dropped to his knees beside Kyuhyun. “You have to keep pressure on it,” Kyuhyun told him, looking up frantically. “I have to go get Leeteuk and Kangin.” Kibum nodded his understanding and slipped his hands in where Kyuhyun’s had been. He tried not to be sick at the feeling of too much blood flowing from Eunhyuk’s wound. The moment he was free, Kyuhyun shot into the air and flew away faster than he ever had before.

“It hurts,” Donghae moaned. “We hurt, and we are scared,” he said before breaking into sobs again.

“Donghae!” Kibum said sharply. The man looked at him as if surprised to see him there. “You have to stop the bleeding.”

“I can’t,” Donghae moaned.

“You can. Listen!” he ordered calling Donghae’s attention back to him. “You control water. Blood is made out of water. You have to make it solid around the wound only until Leeteuk and Kangin get here.”

“I can’t. I can’t,” Donghae muttered again and again. Kibum knew he was dangerously close to losing Donghae to the feeling of Eunhyuk’s fear and pain as well as his own.

“Donghae!” he said harshly. “Then Hyukjae will die! Do it or he will die!”

Donghae’s eyes widened. “I’ll try,” he said softly. His eyes became unfocused and Kibum could tell he was attempted to do just that, so he turned his attention on Eunhyuk. His eyes were glazed with pain and his lids were fluttering. Kibum was terrified that if they closed they would remain that way forever.

“Hyukjae!” he yelled, pressing down a bit more firmly on the wound. “Keep your eyes open. Look at me damn it!”

Eunhyuk’s eyes slowly focused on him. “Kibum,” he said weakly in confusion.

“Don’t talk idiot. As soon as we get this fixed up, you are getting lessons. If nothing else I’m going to teach you how to dance your scrawny ass out of the way,” Kibum told him. Eunhyuk laughed and his eyes fluttered shut.

“Don’t you dare shut your eyes! Hyukjae look at me!” Kibum screamed at him. Weakly his eyes fluttered open and he tried to focus on the man in front of him. “Don’t you dare die on us!”

“Wouldn’t that… make your life easier?” Eunhyuk said weakly.

Kibum felt the blood leaking from beneath his hands slow and come to a stop. “Don’t you dare even think that! Just because I’m in love with Donghae doesn’t mean that I want you dead. Face it you scrawny thing. Without you his bed wouldn’t be half as exciting. I wouldn’t have to put forth effort for Donghae’s attention.” Eunhyuk smiled weakly. “You have to stay with us so that I can kick your ass at it again.”

“Ok,” Eunhyuk replied softly.

“Donghae,” Kibum told the other man. “Talk to him.” Donghae nodded and began muttering. He could hardly make out what the other man was saying but it was enough for Eunhyuk to focus on. Kibum glanced around and saw Heechul kneeling by Hankyung, who looked terrified and sick at what he had done. Siwon was kneeling at the man’s other side. Kibum glared at them as if challenging them to approach. Heechul met his eyes and understanding passed between them, before they broke the contact and both returned to their separate tasks.

“I am never flying again,” Kangin groaned and it was the best sound that Kibum had heard in a long time.

“Oh my God. Hyukjae,” Leeteuk gasped in shock.

Kangin immediately rushed over and Kibum allowed him to replace his hands on the wound. He slid sideways and grasped Eunhyuk’s hand when he weakly lifted it. “Don’t worry. Kangin is here now, everything will be ok,” he told Eunhyuk softly. Eunhyuk sighed in relief and the pain that filled his eyes disappeared, as Kangin put a pain blocking Weaving on him.

Leeteuk stood behind Kangin and placed a hand on his shoulder to give him the best possible connection to his Song. “Kangin?”

“Something is wrong. The blood isn’t flowing right,” Kangin said puzzled.

“I had Donghae stop it so that there would be some left in him when you got here,” Kibum told him.

Kangin nodded. “He has to reverse that before I can do anything.”

“Donghae,” Kibum called. When he received no response he lifted a bloody hand and tipped Donghae’s face up to look at him. “You can let his blood go now. Kangin is here.”

“No, he’ll die,” Donghae replied confused.

“No Hae, Kangin is here. Let it go. It will be alright. You trust me don’t you?” Donghae nodded. “Then trust me in this. Let it go.”

It was immediate when Donghae let go of his hold on the blood. Kangin was forced to press harder on the wound but at the same time he began feeding Eunhyuk’s body energy and encouraged it to knit itself back together.

“It’s ok. It’s almost over,” Kibum told both of the men. Donghae nodded and bent to continue to murmur to Eunhyuk.

It seemed like an eternity before Kangin sat back and removed his blood stained hands. “There. He is as whole as I can make him.”

Eunhyuk sighed and his eyes fluttered closed. “Hyukjae!” Donghae called, panicked.

“It’s alright,” Leeteuk reassured him. He had moved around to stand behind Donghae. “He is just sleeping now.”

“But there was blood and he was just,” Donghae trailed off into incoherent mumbles.

“I know, I know. It’s ok now,” Leeteuk soothed, stroking the other mans hair. He glanced at his Weaver, “Kangin, put him to sleep,” Leeteuk said softly.

Kangin nodded and closed his eyes for a moment. Seconds later Donghae’s eyes began to droop and he collapsed into Leeteuk’s waiting arms. “Let’s get them home,” Leeteuk said softly.

Nodding his agreement, Kangin moved to lift Eunhyuk’s form. Kibum snarled. “Don’t touch him. I’ll carry him.”

Kangin, knowing better then to argue, lifted his hands in surrender. “I’ll carry Donghae then.”

Kibum considered for a moment before nodding his consent. Tenderly he let go of Eunhyuk’s hand and gathered him into his arms. He rose, cradling the other man carefully to his body and began to walk the direction of their dorm.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. I couldn’t see anything. I expected him to block it,” Hankyung mumbled as he caught up with Kibum.

“You can tell that to him later,” Kibum growled out, holding Eunhyuk closer to his body.

“Come on,” Heechul told Hankyung, gently pulling him away from the man and leading him back to Siwon.

Kyuhyun watched his elders leave ahead of him and stared around the clearing shakily. The reality of what they were doing seemed to finally hit him. They weren’t simply playing with fun powers and plastic toys. This was real and deadly. They could die at any moment. Thankfully nothing permanent had been done, but if it had been an unfriendly blade then what would have happened? How many of them would they lose to this war that they hadn’t even known about?

He shuttered and tried to push the thought out of his mind. Instead he slipped his shirt over his head and used it to create a pouch in which he quickly placed the four daggers. With any luck that would keep them away from his skin and keep Donghae from feeling any additional pain should he wake up. Kyuhyun didn’t know what would happen if they were left out here and he didn’t want to find out. He tied his shirt closed and held it away from his body with one hand. Then he sighed and began to walk after the rest of his group members.

Kibum had thanked them all for their help, but he had ushered everyone out of Donghae’s room as soon as possible. Once the door closed on them, Kibum quickly moved to the bathroom. He stripped off his clothing and stepped into the small shower long enough to was the blood off his body. Once that was done he took a small bucket he found in the corner, filled it with warm soapy water, and grabbed a small towel.

Carrying bucket and towel, he headed back to the bed where he had left his companions. He set the bucket on the floor and carefully began to strip both men from their clothing. Once that was done he began to gently wash the half dried blood from their bodies.

He was almost scared to see what lay underneath all the blood on Eunhyuk’s stomach, but as he wiped it away he found only smooth skin. There was a faint raised area where the sword had pierced flesh. It was enough that Kibum could notice it and feel it, but not so much that it couldn’t be covered with makeup and hidden from the cameras. Sighing with relief he continued to wipe the man’s skin.

When he was finished with Eunhyuk he moved onto Donghae. Half of the way through, Donghae stirred with a quiet sigh. His eyes blinked lazily open and Kibum smiled at him. “I’m glad you are awake,” he said softly, leaning in to distract Donghae with a kiss as he wiped away the majority of the blood. “Come shower with me,” he invited, leading Donghae with kisses to the bathroom.

In truth he didn’t want Donghae to see the blood that was still on his own body or the blood that stained their sheets. It was enough to scare him and he was afraid that Donghae would sink into another panicked state. Instead Kibum lead him into the cramped shower and underneath the spray, using the disguise of simple touches to wash the blood from Donghae’s body. When he was clean, Kibum stepped out and dried himself once more.

“I’ll go get some pajamas for you,” Kibum told him, leaning in for another kiss. He slipped from the bathroom and returned a moment later with a set of pajamas.

“Kibum,” Donghae said as he grabbed his arm lightly. “I know what you are doing. Thank you,” he said softly.

Kibum’s eyes widened before he smiled and nodded. He knew Donghae wasn’t stupid or unobservant by any means. “It will be safe for you in a few minutes,” he told the other man softly.

Donghae nodded and Kibum slipped out of the bathroom. He carefully lifted Eunhyuk’s unconscious form from the bed and laid him on the floor. Then he quickly stripped off the slightly stained sheets and balled them up before placing them by the door. From the closet, he removed a new set and made the bed before lifting Eunhyuk back into the center. He had no sooner finished before Donghae came out wearing his pajamas.

“We should put pants on him at least, or he will think we took advantage of him while he was asleep,” Donghae said with a smile. Kibum laughed and helped him dress Eunhyuk in pair of pajama pants. Kibum pulled on a pair of his own and the two crawled into the bed on either side of Eunhyuk.

“How are you doing,” Kibum asked quietly after they had laid there for a moment.

“Fine,” Donghae said with a smile. “I think Kangin healing him exhausted Eunhyuk. I’m sure it will hit me again later, but all I feel is tiredness from him and tenderness from you.”

“That is what we are feeling, not what you are feeling,” Kibum reminded him gently.

Donghae laughed. “Lately it means the same thing. I’m alright Kibum. Really.”

“Alright,” Kibum agreed, finding Donghae’s hand on Eunhyuk’s stomach and covering it with his own. For now that was enough.

Eunhyuk was the first to awaken to the strange arrangement. Usually it was him and Kibum on either side of Donghae. Not this time. To make matters worse he couldn’t figure out which one of them was clinging to him tighter. Saying it unnerved him would be an understatement.

He vaguely recalled the training that afternoon, and then there had been so much pain that he hadn’t really remembered anything after that. Instantly he felt bad. He was sure that if he had been in pain, Donghae had felt it too, but it seemed like everything was alright now.

Donghae was the next to stir, most likely due to the fact that Eunhyuk’s emotions were fluxing all over the place. “Can’t you feel quieter,” he complained, nuzzling closer. Then his eyes snapped open and he sat up in surprise. “Hyukjae!” he exclaimed.

The next thing he knew Donghae was on top of him and kissing him breathless. “I thought you were not going to make it,” Donghae murmured while painting his skin with little kisses.

“Could you molest him quieter,” Kibum groaned releasing his hold on Eunhyuk and rolling over.

“Kibum! Hyukjae is awake!” Donghae exclaimed.

“I heard,” Kibum said dryly. “And I am sure everyone else did. They will all undoubtedly be here shortly.”

“I should go talk to Hankyung. I’m sure he is killing himself over this,” Eunhyuk muttered.

“He is in Heechul’s room. I can feel how upset he is,” Donghae said softly.

“You can feel other people’s emotions?” Kibum questioned.

“Only when they are strong and only when I am connected to your Songs,” Donghae responded. Kibum hummed his understanding and Donghae climbed off Eunhyuk and then off the bed. “Come on, I’ll come with you,” he told Eunhyuk holding out his hand.

Eunhyuk sat up and looked down at Kibum who had turned onto his stomach in order to avoid having to get up with them. He touched the man’s back lightly. “Thank you Kibum,” he said softly. He didn’t quiet remember what he was thanking the man for, but he did remember him being there almost immediately and hearing Kibum’s voice. He figured that thanks were in order. Kibum grunted but didn’t say anything else. Eunhyuk took that as acceptance and he slipped from the room with Donghae.

~♪~♪♫♪~♪~

It had taken a bit for them to convince Hankyung that Eunhyuk understood it was an accident and no hard feelings were meant by it. After that, Donghae and Eunhyuk had left the fire trio to their own devices and went to reassure everyone else he was fine. Eunhyuk was unsurprised to find DBSK and SS501 gathered at their dorm.

Eunhyuk spent several minutes pacing the room and showing off his new scar, while Kangin boasted of his skill. Kyuhyun had handed the bundle of daggers to Donghae, who had forgotten all about them. He thanked the younger man and caused them to disappear in a fine rain of mist before handing the shirt back to its owner.

Once Leeteuk had sufficiently fretted and everyone had seen that he was alright, Donghae dragged him back to their shared room. Kibum was lying in the middle of the bed and opened his eyes when they returned. “I was beginning to think that you had gotten lost,” he told them with a smile.

“Nope,” Donghae said with a smile, crawling into his outstretched arms. “My Kibum,” he murmured quietly as he settled nearly on top of the man.

Kibum laughed and shifted him off to one side. “Come here Hyukjae,” Kibum beckoned the other man with his free arm.

Eunhyuk approached wearily, knowing that Kibum could still kill him with only one arm. The moment he had eased himself down on Kibum’s other side; Donghae had leaned forward and offered him a kiss.

“My Hyukjae,” he murmured. Eunhyuk smiled as things made sense to him. Of course Kibum would want Donghae happy after the day that they all had and the easiest way to make him happy was the three of them together. He sighed and let his eyes fall shut again. In only a few short moments, Kibum and Donghae both had followed him into slumber.
