You Belong with Me
Chapter Four
Perhaps getting into a fight after school with the girl I hated had been a horrible plan. If I had taken a moment to think about my actions I might have done something a little different, and probably slightly more intelligent. By the time Hankyung and Siwon had pulled us off each other it was a little too late to do it differently.
Despite the possibly unwise decision, I had learned a few things. I did not know that at least one secretary and the principle were always on the premises as long as there were students present. I also learned that if you are an all A student without any previous record, you don’t get suspended; you get a talking to and told that you are going to have to remain in the office until you work out your differences.
I also discovered that Heechul broke all stereotypes in the one place where it was the least convenient. She, unfortunately, did not fight like a girl. There was no slapping or name calling or hair pulling or clawing. Nope. Heechul fought by curling her fingers into tight fists and then slamming them into the opponent’s kidneys. I was sporting a split lip and several bruises to my abdomen and arms; although I was rather proud to see the black and blue splotch blooming on the side of her face. The secretary was sitting at her desk to be sure we didn’t start throwing punches again, even though she was seemingly ignoring us.
Heechul finger combed her hair back into place. “I was trying to help you,” she snarled.
“Help me?” I growled back. “Help me? How? By making my best friend fall in love with you and want to spend the rest of his life with you?”
“It never would have worked between us. He is too short,” she replied flippantly.
Anger flared up in me. I wanted to hit her again. “How dare you play with his feelings like this,” I hissed.
“Oh please,” Heechul pulled out a mirror and scowled at her reflection. “Sungmin doesn’t care about me like he cares about you.” At her words I blinked in confusion. “Look,” she tossed the mirror back in her bag. “You never would have figured out you cared about him unless someone else dated him. Be thankful no one dated him for real.”
I had no idea what to say to her. Part of me agreed with what she had said. The rest of me still wanted to rip her apart. She stood from the chair gracefully. “I have a date with a Chinese man. When you decide you want to do something about your feelings let me know.” She was the last person I would ever ask for help.
Flipping her hair lightly, Heechul walked to the door where she paused for a moment before turning back. “Oh and tell Siwon he should just ask me.” She spun and breezed out the door before I could utter a word in response.
I sat blinking for a moment before I gathered my things and shuffled out of the office. The secretary didn’t try to stop me so I simply left. I managed to slip out of the building without confronting anyone important. Just outside I passed Heechul who had been found by Zhou mi. Together they were lamenting the darkening mark on her face.
Wanting to be away from there as quickly as I could, I hurried off of the property and headed directly home. If Sungmin had found me I don’t think would have had a good excuse as to why I punched Heechul. Somehow telling him, “Yeah I punched your ex-girlfriend because she was playing with your heart,” didn’t seem like a great idea. Instead I avoided him. Thanks to the drama practice and the fact that the teacher had pretty much kept most of the students from following us to the office, it was much easier to do so.
By the time I arrived home, my parents were waiting for me at the front door. My mother fussed until she was sure I was alright. After that they led me to the couch where they sat me down. My father launched into a lecture involving something along the lines of ‘never needing to throw a punch’. I tuned him out after that point
When he had blown himself out for the night, I was sentenced to my room. I sighed and gently lay down on my bed. It took a lot of wiggling and shifting until I found a position that allowed me to relax without hurting myself. I had only lain there for a few minutes before a knock interrupted my rest. I groaned at having to move to answer it and had only lifted myself into a sitting position when the door simply opened. Eunhyuk was standing on the other side of it with a little jar in her hand.
“Hey,” she said as she stepped into the room and closed the door behind her. “I heard you got in a fight with Heechul.”
I ran my tongue over my slightly swollen lip, “Yeah. How did you get past my parents?” I asked her. I knew from experience when I was sentenced to my room, my mother guarded the house like a sentry. She would occasionally check the tree between our houses to discourage my friends from sneaking over. One summer she had even positioned my father outside in a lawn chair to ‘keep an eye on the situation’.
“I told her I had something for you that would make you feel a bit better. She said it was alright as long as I left shortly afterward. Here,” she stepped forward and held out a container. “Sungmin told me to bring this to you. It’s a cream he uses during the football season on his bruises.”
“Thanks,” I told her as I accepted it. I didn’t ask why Sungmin hadn’t brought it over himself but she seemed to read my mind anyway.
“Sungmin would have brought it but I don’t think he has figured out if he is madder at you for punching Heechul or her for hitting you back.” She looked at me and asked, “What happened?”
I sighed. If I didn’t tell her what had happened she would lay on the puppy dog eyes and those would be impossible to resist. “She told me that the only reason she was dating Sungmin was to set me up to confess.”
Eunhyuk’s eyes widened, “Her dating him was to set you up?”
I glared. That was what I had just said. “All I know is that she was using him for her own plan.” I shrugged. “So I lost it and punched her.”
“Hm,” she hummed lightly as she seemed to fall into her own thoughts.
“Oh don’t tell me,” I groaned, “that you are with her?”
“Well she is right Kyu. You do need to confess.” I knew I never should have told Eunhyuk that I maybe, kinda-sorta, might like her brother.
I glared harder. “I’ll confess to your brother right after you confess to Donghae.”
She laughed nervously.
“Yeah that is what I thought. Now help me put on this stuff,” I ordered and held the small jar out to her.

A week passed without much event. The bruises healed. I was disappointed to see the bruise on Heechul’s face disappear and I think she was nearly as disappointed. Without it she would have to find another reason to have Hankyung and sometimes Siwon, to do her bidding.
The play was progressing well. Eunhyuk, Shindong and Donghae had moved on to choreographing some of the larger dance numbers. The actors all knew about half of their lines. Sungmin and his props crew had already built a roll away living room and half of a town square.
Today, like every other, there was a fifteen minute break half of the way through practice. I had gotten used to being dragged down to the stage by either Siwon or Eunhyuk or some strange combination of the cast. Instead of waiting to be dragged, I just walked down to the stage.
When I got there Leeteuk was nudging Eunhyuk and obviously encouraging her to do something. She looked up at me and then smirked. “See Eunhyuk, she is here now. You have to do it.”
“Leeteuk I can’t,” she mumbled.
“You promised,” Leeteuk returned.
“Take one for the team,” Shindong encouraged.
“What is going on?” I asked.
“Shh we are trying to get Eunhyuk to do something,” Shindong responded. That, predictably, was not very useful information.
“Just do it,” Leeteuk hissed. “Look he is right there.” She shuffled around Eunhyuk and pushed her forcefully right toward Donghae.
Eunhyuk stumbled and nearly fell on her face right in front of her crush. Luckily for her he reached out and caught her arm, helping to keep her upright.
“Are you ok?” he asked her. Eunhyuk just blushed and nodded.
“She is fine,” Leeteuk called from a few foot away. “She has something to ask you.”
“You do?” he asked puzzled. I could see Eunhyuk visibly gulp. Donghae smiled brightly at her. “What?”
“I was wondering if,” she mumbled very quietly. “If you would go out with me.” She said it so quiet that I barely heard her and I wasn’t sure if he would be able to over the clamor of students.
Donghae’s smile brightened. “I’d love to, Eunhyuk.” I was pretty sure Eunhyuk was going to melt into a puddle of happiness right where she stood with her arm still held in Donghae’s hand. “I gotta go but I will call you after practice ok?”
She nodded mutely and he patted her on the arm before releasing her and taking off across the stage. A second later Leeteuk and Shindong had swarmed her and I couldn’t help but join them.
“You did it!” Leeteuk cheered happily.
“He said yes,” Eunhyuk said in disbelief.
“Of course he did,” Leeteuk told her as if she was positive that he would.
“He said yes,” Eunhyuk mumbled again. Then a grin split her face and she exclaimed, “He said yes!” She and Leeteuk began performing, what could only be called a victory dance with Shindong. I stepped carefully to the side. I was not going to be a part of that one.
“What has gotten into the crazy crew?” Heechul asked me. Apparently she failed to realize that I still wasn’t talking to her, not that I ever really had.
“Kyuhyun!” Eunhyuk said breaking from the other two to bound over and grab my arms. “I asked him and he said yes!”
“I heard. I’m happy for you,” I said smiling at her.
“I asked him. Now you have to confess to my brother!” She declared. Crap. I had hoped she wouldn’t remember.
“Eunhyuk I don’t-“
“You promised! A promise is a promise Kyuhyun,” she said sternly. I knew she was right. We had promised never to break our promises to each other when we had been little. The problem was I had no idea how I was going to confess to her brother since we had only just started hanging out normally again after his big break up with Heechul. How could I tell him that I liked him? Or worse, loved him?
“Well, I guess this is my cue,” Heechul said with a smirk.
I was about to protest when Leeteuk slid over displaying a smile that was full of trouble. “No,” I told her, just on principle.
“Heechul I believe it is time for plan S,” Leeteuk said smoothly, ignoring me.
“Excellent choice,” Heechul agreed. I blinked. Since when did Leeteuk and Heechul talk let alone scheme together?
“Absolutely n-“
“Plan S everybody!” Heechul shouted over all the conversations. There were several excited noises and several shouts of agreement.
I glared at Eunhyuk. “You told,” I accused.
“Leeteuk forced it out of me,” she stuttered looking guilty.
I shifted my glare to the other woman. “Who did you tell?”
“Only the people who need to know,” she replied smoothly.
“Which is how many?”
“Don’t worry Kyuhyun, we’ll all help out,” Siwon said as he walked by carrying an armload of paint. I narrowed my eyes at Leeteuk.
“A few,” she said with a shrug.
“Next time you decide you need to help, don’t,” I ordered. Heechul put her hand on my shoulder.
“Don’t worry Kyu. We’ll help you get your man,” she said with a smirk.
“My name is Kyuhyun,” I snapped, jerking my shoulder away from her hand. “I don’t need any of your help.” They all simply grinned at me, and right then and there I decided I was going to kill them all.
Chapter Five AN: Well guys I feel a little bit bad that this took so long. In my defense it only took this long because I was working on 'From the Soul to the Song', so that is good right? Let me know what you all think? Is anyone still reading this? lol. I'm sure at least a few are.
